I don't completely hate it, but like enough to make an album titled I Hate My Generation. Put the guns down. Why we can't fight. People get mad for completely no reason. Nobody can take a joke in this generation. Nobody. People record too much stuff. I could be drowning. They gonna record it. Oh my, needles are shining. I be trying to bring positivity to the world. I am absolutely thrilled to be welcoming in on the One More Time podcast, Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer. It's party next door. Oh my god, I'm on the podcast. Bro, right now. Let's go. I said what? I said he liked Party Next Door. He might have gotten a little bit of his name from Party Next Door. I said it's Nick next door. That's not party. That's not part of it. He's been going crazy on the internet. You haven't seen this kid? What? I thought this was party. Damn it. My bad. Nick DxDoor, welcoming in on the podcast. We got Nick next door in the building. We got Super Mario himself. Yes.
You know? Damn. Damn. I love that hat, by the way. It's sick. Appreciate you, fam. Yeah. I'm I'm more of a Luigi guy myself, but you know, who's who's asking, right? He roots for the underdog. I ain't gonna lie. I mess with Yoshi for sure. Okay. Yoshi's hard. Yoshi hard. Yeah. You play Smash Brothers? For sure. Yeah. Yoshi was always the goat on there. Yeah. So Smash Brothers is like I'm 32. This kid is 16 as of two days ago, half of my age. And Super Smash Bros. is still hitting. Like, that's still That's Nick. That's still a thing. I mean, well, like, I consider myself an old soul. So I should be doing everything that probably y'all be doing. Yeah. You do kind of give that off, man. Like, I watched a couple of other interviews. It's like you don't act like you're 16 in the way that you talk and like your opinions on life. Like you just feel like you've been living so much life the way like you're so wise. I don't know. Do you get that a lot? Yeah, for sure. You have like a heavily diversified stock portfolio at this point. Like, how are you?
He's definitely reading, like he's definitely reading nonfiction. Yeah. Um, you know, he's like a doctor at this point. I love it. So you just got back from LA, right? For sure. Yeah. What what were you out there doing? We was out there. I was making songs mostly in the studio, but really just exploring for real, for real. Uh what'd you explore? Mario World, Universe Studios. Did you get that from Mario World? For sure. There you go. Wow. I had to. I paid $50 for this, and I ain't taking this off. Damn. Yeah, get your money's worth. Dude, damn. So what else did you do? Uh what did we do? It was like LA is just exactly like GTA. So whatever you're gonna see in GTA, like we passed by my house in GTA like. I got like five houses in GTA. We passed by like every single one of them. Cause they model it pretty accurately, right? Yeah. San Andreas? All that. Damn. So uh a kid from Florence, South Carolina, which a lot of our audience has probably never even heard of that place. No.
What what was it like? I'm assuming this is your first time out to LA. Yeah. What what is a kid like you going out there to you know, take label meetings, make music, etc. Like, what's going through your fucking head on the flight over, man? See, like at first, I still am scared of flights, but like me too. I'm 32, I'm still scared. Yeah, I'm still scared, but like at the same time, it's like it's not that much, you know. Did it all feel does it feel surreal to be like going out there for music specifically? Like, that was the purpose of the visit. Like, you know, you got to go to Mario World, but still. I didn't think about none of this. Like, I wasn't. Of course, I was dreaming about it, but I ain't never think none of this happened for real, for real. Like, I was just I I'm always in my mind, so yeah. Mm-hmm. Like everything felt so unreal. Like, how I'm here right now, it don't feel real like that. Right, right. He's on the one more time podcast. He's made it. He is. He's he's dreamt of this. Yeah, right. For sure. Is it like a lot of, like, a lot of people out there that are the kind of people that you think of, like just people trying
with dream big dreams, you know, LA just trying to make it? Was it kind of like Yes, that's how South Carolina is really. Florence specifically. Really? Yes. Florence is full of dreamers, go getters. Yeah. Damn. Hmm. Who would have known? Like it's it's a bunch of people that rap, but we got a lot of, you know, we got a lot of D1 players out here. You know, a lot of rappers, a lot of artists, like not even just rapping artists, but like real deal artists, like painting and stuff like that. Really? We got a whole bunch of stuff in Florence. But, damn. and like, I feel like Florence is very talented. Yeah. He sounds like he's got a lot of hometown pride. Yeah. That's awesome. We might be ghetto, but you know, hey, you know, it is what it is. Do you think that it's you know, it sounds like maybe there are some success stories, but like you hear all these, you know, you can't make it in music if you come from a small town. Like, what what's your philosophy on being from a small town?
Like, do you think that helps your cause when it comes to like making it in music? Or you think it hurts? Like, I'm not even gonna lie, it's like a lot of stuff wrong with me. Like, I don't have I don't have that much confidence. Like, I don't like being around people like that for real. Like, it probably don't seem like it, but that's how it is, really. I be nervous and all that introverted. You're the classic introverted artist, you know? Like that. That's why I make music at home. Like, I get nervous when I get in the studio, like, cause it'd be like a lot of people. So yeah. Have you been in some big like party kind of sessions with just tons of people? Do you prefer like the more intimate kind of just the people that need to be there kind of sessions? Yeah, like okay, you're hitting record, you can be there. You made the beat, you can be there. Otherwise, get the fuck out. Amen. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Those party sessions get kind of crazy sometimes. You can lose focus. Yeah, but like, yeah. I think Florence is really why I am where I am right now. Cause like without my city, I wouldn't be where I am right now. Cause like my city taught me a lot of things.
Being from a small town. That's I feel like being from a small town should make you more of a go-getter. Cause now I got a reason to go get money, I'm from a small town. But there's a lot of people that are probably very comfortable and content just being from a small town and never leaving the small town. That's cool. Yeah. That's that's cool because then you ain't gotta be in traffic all the time. How, like, how it leaves. The traffic is a downfall of the big city. From Florence to Atlanta and LA. Yeah. Big traffic. Yeah, it's just like my my mom's from uh like western North Carolina in a small town outside of Asheville. Yeah and her sister is very much like barely likes to come to Atlanta for like a visit, you know? And she actually scared of the traffic. You know, you know, funny enough. Like traffic, like traffic is wild. Traffic is real wild. Is it worse in LA? Going through traffic, traffic with Fabian? Oh yeah. Oh shout out Fabo in the building. Shout out Fabo and I didn't mean to. I mean, say his real name. I'm sorry.
Don't kill him. Do you have his address? No. Maybe a social security number? I might, you know, might take your CVV. Mother's maiden name. So I saw you were, you know, visiting SoundCloud. I saw you visited another uh a label, right? Like, are you just as nervous going into those types of meetings? All that. Like, yeah. I low key be afraid of people. I don't know why. Even outside of like the stressful music scenarios, just like back home too. Bruh, we wild. Like, there's a whole bunch of wild stuff going on Even at school. I still love my city though. Like at school, though. You is it the same? Or is it different? Like, they don't act like how they're supposed to act for real, for real. Like how people expect that. I mean, like, oh, we got niggas next door in our school. Like, like, some most people see me as a regular nigga, you know. Yeah.
What do you prefer? That. Yeah. Really? Because then everybody knowing gotta be on my face. And then if you been on me, like I ain't even gonna lie, the people who know me though, like, who been knew me, like my close friends, they be trolling the heck out of me. Like, I'm talking about, oh my gosh, I went my nigga next door. Oh, so they're going to other extreme of borderline trying to make fun, make fun of you for being and like I just be side eyeing them the whole time. Like, bro, what's, what you got going on, cuz? What's up? Damn. So any any nigga who called me Nick next door in school, I'm smacking him. Nick next door is my father. Just call me Nick. I'm playing. I ain't gonna smack you. I'm gonna smack your girl. Fuck. So, like for you know, for rappers out there who are, you know, maybe getting invited out to their first label meetings, like how does it go? Right? You show up, what are you doing? You playing music for them, you rapping for them, you just You definitely playing music for them. Yeah, but like you in your head, like what they gonna think about this, or yeah, are you like looking at them being like, are they fucking with this?
I'm just looking around the room, I'm trying to read the room, you know. Like this old white guy's not gonna be like, alright. so first off, when I get in the room, it's a whole different story. I'm looking for the exit immediately. I got this right here, right here, right here. You know, that's how I got it. That's how I got it. Damn, bro. It sounds a little paranoid. I am, bro. Yeah. I don't know why though. I don't know why, cause, like, Florence is so wild. like it's so much stuff that's going on in Florence. But like, yeah. Damn. So you're playing, so you're playing music. Which which song did they fuck with more than you thought they were going to of yours? Like, this unreleased song got played. Oh shit. Yeah. Can we get any hints on it? What's called Night and Day. It's like a Kid Cudi sample. Yeah. You're big on the sampling, right? The interpolating other tracks. How yeah, we gotta ask. What about the legal? Yeah, let's get into the legalities of that. We gotta ask. Not not in the streets. Obviously, leverages a sample from Kendrick Lamar. Bitch don't kill my vibe.
Yeah. Did we just say fuck it? We're using it. How'd that go? Like, I really wasn't thinking nothing of it. I was like, you know, I'm rapping off BandLab still, so I still rap off BandLab to today, but like back then, like I was in class. I was just listening to beats in biology class. Not, you know, I was doing my work, but still on my phone. Like, cause at this point, I'm thinking, like, bro, I can actually kind of take this serious. So I'm trying to find hard beats and stuff like that. So yeah, I found this beat. Uh shout out to Bravo. Matter of fact, he made the beat. Yeah. Shout out Bravo. Yeah. So he had already chopped the sample. No, I ain't even, I ain't even know him. I just found the beat. I was looking up Tony Snow type beats. Shout out Tony, man. I love Tony here. And that bitch don't kill my vibe sampled beat came up under a Tony Snow type beat. Yeah. Cause like, you know, Tony Snow beat, rapping off samples itself. So like, yeah.
So with that song seeing some like viral success, I mean it's getting played on live streams by Kai Sinat. It's getting shared by mad people, you know, almost at a million, I feel like, or you know, creeping up on it on Spotify alone. Like, have you gotten any calls from from you know Kendrick's publishing team or anything? Or how's that been? PG Lang hasn't called yet. No, so ride that wave, baby. Damn. What do you mean? Like, why not? Let's go, man. That's what's all like Juice WRLD. If someone told Juice WRLD, not to put out Lucid Dreams because it was an interpolation of a Sting song, would this man have even become Juice WRLD? You know what I mean? Probably not. Yeah, you think Kendrick's team's like watching the streams, they're like, let's give it another million. what's hits a billion, we're gonna go in and ask for 90%. Yeah, sure. It's not it's not worth it. I hope it don't come to that though. Like. But even if it does, bro, you'll be at the point where you can get 10, 15, 20k, 25k for a show. You know what I mean? So to me, like, go for it, man.
Make the music that's in your heart. I say, fuck that shit. Rap on any shit that makes you feel something, and then the people are gonna feel that. It'd be the sample beats, bro. I don't know why. it'd be the sample beats. It's the ones. The Sample beats be the hardest beats ever, though. Like, because then like you'll listen to the sample and then listen to the beat. Boom. You know, it's got that like nostalgia. It's something that you've heard before, but it's also something new. It has both elements. That's the shit that hits, man. It's like, oh, I've heard that before, but oh, but it's a new take on it. And that's what makes people feel like this is something I really like. And then I be trying to rap off old samples too, because, like, like I said, I'm an old soul, and I be trying to grab the the older people's attention too. Like, I don't want to just have my my new, the new generation. Um because you hate your generation. Amen. Yo, that, that title of an album, I completely hate it, but like is that still the name of the album, though? Enough to make enough to make an album titled I Hate My Generation. Yeah. So I mean, you know, talk to us a little bit about that, right?
Like, you clearly don't really, but there's some things that you aren't a fan of, right? Like, speak on what it is that you don't really like about you know kids your age. Listen. I'm listening. That's why we're here. Everything gay. Everything is not gay. Him. I hate him. Shout out, Fabo. Bro. Told this nigga I'm about to go ride in the car. Oh nah. That's our little thing. Like, if you say something, pause, oh nah. You know? I'll try a little language or whatever. It's like, hey yo. Yeah, something like that. Kind of like that. But that ain't got nothing to do with what we talk about. I'm tripping, bro. Okay. But your generation. My generation. It's like, it's so much stuff like that my generation does that it's not supposed to be done. Like what? Put the guns down. Yeah. Why we can't fight. You know, one thing. Second, people get mad for completely no reason. Nobody can take a joke in this generation. Nobody.
Like, at all. Like, you can say somebody look like Peter Griffin, bro. What'd you say? Not able to go get the gun out of the car because you said they look like Peter Griffin. Third thing, like, it's just so much stuff. I don't, I like, I can't even explain it for real. Like people record too much stuff. I could be drowning. They gonna record it. Oh my gosh, needles are shining. I'll be trying to bring positivity to the world. I am absolutely thrilled Instead of saving you. Instead of saving me, exactly. That's crazy. Yeah, I feel like I see some of those uh those clips online of yeah, like catastrophic situations, like someone's drowning, someone's you know, freaking out, someone's clearly in distress. And I and I do think to myself of like, I'm I'm in, I'm interested in this content, obviously. But I'm like, who the fuck is filming? Like who's behind the the phone? Oh, that's true recording this, you know, chaos happening. Yeah, like another thing about our generation is hate on people too much. Like the last generation did it, of course, but like they ain't do it as much as it is now. Uplifting people is supposed to be how the world is, but I guess not.
But I be trying to bring positivity to the world. I don't know how though, because I got social anxiety, but I don't even like people. I don't know how, but still, I still be trying to, you know, bring people together because that's what we need to do. So it sounds like clearly your ideal day would not be going to spend a lot of time around a lot of people. Bro, I don't even like going to restaurants. Like, I don't like going to no, okay. Let's say we in Miami's are, like, being honest. I'm not going to be any honest. I don't like that stuff. Because you have to sit with people. We got to sit in front of there watching everybody. I'm just, I ain't there. But like, why are you looking at me, bro? Like, I don't like when people staring at me like none of that. You do realize you're gonna have to have to go. This is a scary career path that you're on for that type of mindset. Yeah, I'm gonna lay that out there. Yeah, I'm just you know, because we we talked about recently, Moneybag Yo tweeted. Um, honestly, I hate being famous, but I'm blessed. So, like, you know, it can exist. It's cool, it's very cool being blessed.
Shout out God, you know. Yeah, I'm his biggest fan, by the way. You know, shout out God. Shout out God, man. Oh, I thought he was talking about Moneybagg yo. He no, that's not God, Ben. Oh, I know. He said he's his biggest fan, and I was just like, Moneybagg Yo is hard though. Yeah, he is he is pretty hard. Um, so you know, you're you know, you're taking some meetings with with labels, you know, because obviously you've caught a you know good amount of buzz online. Like, who's who's guiding you through this process? Like, obviously, this you've never been through like the label deals, right? Like, so who are you looking towards to like help you through this? My sister, him, and him. Yeah, one more time alumni in the building, Man. We got people over there. Whoa. shout out my sister at home. So, what kinds of things, matter of fact? Both of my sisters, yeah. Both of my sisters, both sisters, yeah. Both of my sisters, shout out to them. So, what kinds of things are they, you know? What kind of advice are they giving you through this process, right? Because I'm sure this is pretty overwhelming. It sounds like you, you know, are dealing with a lot, anyways. They know it, like I don't like being around too many people because I get nervous.
So like They be just like they'll come probably sit by me, or yeah, they'll be like, we'll have a conversation. Like they'll give me a hug out of nowhere, like, what you doing? And then they'll be like, You gotta calm down. You gotta, you know, I understand you're nervous and stuff like that, but you gotta calm down. And then if we having a whole different conversation, like sometimes I don't be nervous. Like, if I'm having fun, then I'm having fun. It's a difference. But when are you having most fun? You know, what I mean, like, what's your idea of fun? I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think performing was gonna be be as fun because I'm in front of a lot of people performing my songs. But yeah, performing is pretty fun. Yeah, you kind of like black out and just be in the moment, right? It's kind of like you're not over and you don't have time to overanalyze the moment. I wasn't thinking nothing. Yeah, when when I first performed, I was just doing it. Yeah, that's how it is for every artist, man. They're not thinking about performing. You're getting this mindset, you're just in the shit, you know, you're just doing it, man.
It's like a beautiful kind of everybody's singing the words. That's that's a different type of feeling. Yeah, that's what I'm most jealous of, I think. Of of artists, I'm not gonna lie. Anytime I see a video where an artist points the microphone towards the crowd and they finish the lyrics and they sing like the hook or something, I'm like, holy shit, that looks like the best feeling. I used to watch stuff like that all the time. That's why I think I manifested it probably. But yeah. What kind of artist? Who are you watching? Like, who are your influences? J. Cole for sure. Yeah. J. Cole for sure. Yes. Rod Wave selling out shows too. Like, if you see Rod Wave, his show is be packed. He only gotta sing everybody just. If you could on one Rod Wave song, everybody's gonna know it. But Yeah. Rod wave is for the people, bro. Love Rod. Yeah. That's amazing, man. Shout out Fat Man. You know. Yes. So I dropped the uh drop the uh alarm on that one. It sounds like more so they're trying to make you feel comfortable with this process, though, right?
So it's maybe less like, oh, we need this many percentage points on this deal or like this amount of money. Like it's more like trying to get you comfortable with what's even happening. Like, this is a lot happening to you right now. Life's probably does it feel like it's moving like way faster than it ever has before? Facts. Like, well, I'm here right now. So, like, we were supposed to be in, it felt like we was in LA for two days. We was really in LA for four days. I was in Atlanta for a week. That went by fast. Like, when I'm having a lot of fun, everything goes by fast. When I'm not doing nothing, like if I'm just in the house not doing nothing, like let's say I'm sitting here. Time gonna go by slow. Like school, I hate school. I don't hate it because like my my I'm on top of my grades, but you know, I don't like school. How are you managing school right now? I know it's summer, I guess, at this point, but like what you know, what's gonna be the how do you do school even as an artist that's like starting to you know take off? Has that been a discussion point?
School is really hard doing it as an artist, but it's not that hard. Like if you if you know what you gotta do, and it's not just thrown at you like, yeah, then you got it. But my teachers, they just be throwing stuff at me, you know. Oh no, but oh no. Do they seem supportive? No, no, do they know what's going on though? They know I think they do. Like my teacher, my biology teacher. I hate biology, but I don't hate my teacher. Sometimes I did, but yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm just wondering, like, I feel like I've heard stories of artists that you know were kind of taking off in high school or something, right? And some of them have had these amazing experiences where like the teachers were just super supportive, and they're like, oh yeah, like you can miss class, and like they'll send you the homework. Like, this isn't college basketball, Ben. Yeah, my teachers, none of my teachers did that ever before. It's like I think they can they'll of course they know what's going on because like everybody talk about it, but yeah.
Are you any closer churches? Are you any closer to like thinking going the homeschool route at all? Yes, for sure. I've been wanting to do that since I was born. Since you were born. Well, now it makes more sense than ever, I would say. He's like, wait, there's less people at home. So I could just do that. It's less people, yeah. Yeah, exactly. So I gotta imagine that there's been a lot of, you know, fake friends, yes, men that have popped up, you know, people that have kind of come out of the woodworks, right? That wanna suddenly be Nick next door's best friend. Like, is that going on at all? Yes, it is. But how do you I don't know how to go through it though? Like, I don't know how to manage that. Yeah. Cause I guess I'm too kind, but I could be an a-hole sometimes. Well, I'm a-hole most times, but well, one thing we could tell you just from interviewing over 100 people is the people that like everything you do and love every song you make, are usually not the people. It's the people that are at least comfortable enough giving you like a real opinion that I think are more beneficial in the long run.
Like, yes, men are just never the vibe, honestly. Um, they're toxic. You know what I mean? Just gaslighting everything you do. This is how a lot of artists that have like overdosed and died. You know, like shit like that, man. Just people approving everything of everyone's lifestyle. It's people that can be real with you, I think are very important. So I just want to throw that one out there for you. For sure. For sure. Yeah. Well, you know, what are your closest friends say about this? Right? Like, what's their attitude towards all this? My closest friends, they are very supportive. Shout out my friends. Yeah. TuneCore, LaRon, Camille, J4. That's hard. I'm shouting out. Faye boys like my best friend, is like my best friend. I look up to them, though. Like, you don't have to say that because they're in the room. It's okay. We we can talk candidly amongst ourselves. No, I'm so serious. Yeah, I know they're great. Yeah, it's good to have them. But yeah, I got a lot of, I got a lot of, like, I wouldn't say a lot, but like, it's some It's a difference between close friends and close family. I, but I got like my friends, like, we gotta like a little small circle.
Do you have any music making uh friends or any of those people you named, like producers or artists or anything, or are you kind of the only one? My boy J4. Okay. My boy LaRon. Okay. Yeah. And I got and my best friend JC 1700. He shoot most of my videos. Shout out to him. He was willing, like, yeah, He been supporting me though from the jump. Yeah, those are the type of people you want, man. Yeah. Everybody, like my close friends, They been supporting me from the jump, like since I first started rapping. Yeah. How about the ladies? Have they started to come around a little bit more than they used to? DMs You used to? I actually been had like girls supporting me though. Oh. You could, like you should take it serious. But it was like only a few of them though. It was like two or three of them, like that was Ben supporting me. But that number got a little bigger though, maybe. Yeah. So no girlfriend. Keeping your options open. Nick next door. Nick next door is single, ladies.
You heard it on the one more time podcast. Yeah, you said he's scared of relationships. I'm scared, bro. Shoot your shot, ladies. You never know. Maybe you're the one that. I don't want a relationship, bye. Deuces. No one ever does until they do. That's the thing. So with the Kai Cenat, you know, co-sign, right? With him, I mean he's played your song several times, right? Many times. Yeah. Which is wild. Oh, yeah. And he's in Atlanta, right? Kai? He's out of here somewhere. Did you get to meet him in person yet? Not yet. Damn. Did you did you try and like make that happen? And he just like hasn't gotten back to you, or just not even. What's your question? it's kind of both, but I know like what Kai Cenat going on. Oh, well, yeah. Yeah. He we know he traveling the world too, so like how many people would you say came into like the Nick next door universe because of that cosign? I'm just trying to like gauge how influential that was.
I actually blew up on TikTok before. Like before all this happened. Like, but I didn't blow up as much. Like, I was just I blew up for being funny though. Like, I was just taking pictures with random people. Like, it was like a trend, I think. That I started. What? Y'all young y'all young people are doing crazy shit now. What do you mean? Bro, but it was at school though. My friends was like, Nick, you should do something like that. But like, and you just go up to people and take it. I was kinda mad because I ain't have on those type of I ain't have on those type of good clothes. So you went viral on a bad fit Yes, bro. Fuck, dude. A million views on TikTok. With the shittiest fit. It wasn't too bad. back then. Uh yeah, you went by you you went viral on a bad fit? Yes, bro. Fuck, dude. A million views on TikTok. With the shittiest fit. It wasn't too bad. No, it was bad. It was basic, bro. It was bad, bro. You can't take it down though. I didn't see it, bro. I don't like basic fits. No, I mean. That's old Nick, man. That's you know, it's got the date on there. Like you're Nick now. Like, you're Nick next door. Yeah. I've been fresh, though. Like. Yeah. I yeah.
I like putting on clothes. Like, yeah. Damn. I like clothes. Yeah. That's a hard shirt, too, by the way. I don't know if that looks like some. Fashion Nova, bro. Fashion Nova be having some of the hardest shirts. Fashion Nova and Paxland. I love shopping on those. Yeah. Yeah. Now I'm thinking about, you know, we've gone viral a few times. I was definitely wearing, you know, shitty similar outfits. You only have like five shirts, bro. This is a new old shirt, but you know. That's weird. That's fine. Yeah. He walked in the door. I was like, holy shit, I've never seen this is a shirt I actually have never seen you in. This is like one of my oldest shirts. too. And It's like because it's older than all the other shirts he usually wears. I was trying to do the math. I was like, FIFA soccer 09. I was like, was Nick born yet? And barely. Barely, right? Yeah, two years. Damn, bro. Not only is he in the 2000s, he's almost he's oh seven. 2007, bro. God. bless. Killing the game though, man. Yeah. So, you know, something that once again, I feel like you know, you being like wise beyond your years, right? Is that you've mentioned several times like the value that you put on hard work, and you're pretty like vocal about, you know, you're outworking all these other rappers in in a lot of ways, or that's how you feel, right? What what would you characterize as like hard work, right?
So when you say you're outworking, like what is it that you think that you're willing to do or that you're doing that you know others maybe aren't doing? You gotta be like a hundred percent about what you're doing. Like, I still play basketball too, so like you gotta at least be working some type of way, even if you just outside or in the house, just dribbling the ball. Yeah, but like when it comes down to music, I'm in the studio most times, making what three songs, four, yeah. Like grinding is something you gotta do. Like, I'm 100% about music, I'm 100% about basketball still. Both of those things, yeah. Damn. So if you if you had to choose between making it to the league and making it as a rapper, which would you choose? I don't know. Like, that's a hard question, though. That's why we're here. Yeah, how tall are you? Like five, five, five, six.
And you're not done growing yet, probably. So maybe. I don't know. Maybe keep rapping. Yo, that's messed up, bro. That's wild. No, we actually did do a uh short. No, no, we did a short rapper draft. Yeah, whoa, laughing too hard. Like he's not only just six foot. Yeah, right. He did. No, but we maybe it's two. You like five, two, you might move back. No, we did a a uh short rapper draft, and there's some fire picks that are under five six. There's some hard ass short rappers. So we were like, damn, like a lot of rappers are short as fuck. It was under five, nine, I think. But then you got some like gigantic rappers as well, right? For sure. You got like Dave East who's like six. six. Yeah, two chains is way up there. Yeah, there's some tall motherfuckers too. I feel like there's not that many like happy medium rappers, you know. Where are the average rappers at? We need the average heighted rappers to show themselves. Right. I think most rappers have been doing like sports before they started rapping, though.
Most rappers like you think so? J. Cole, Two Chains, yeah, hoopers. Yeah, most of them is hoopers or football players. Yeah, yeah, but then you got like Uzi. There's no way he was hooping, right? Uzi was definitely hooping back then. You could tell. Hooping, you think so? Yes, for sure. I feel like he was like, You could tell he was actually hooping, though. Yeah, for sure. I mean, there's short hoopers. Shout out Uzi too. That's that's definitely what I'm saying. I feel like he was drawing or doing some other shit. Nah. What is it about Uzi? Like, I'm not a like Uzi fans are like they love Uzi, bro. I never jumped on that on that train. Like, what is it about Uzi? I'm a real old Uzi fan, but like when he started getting into the demonic stuff, I ain't really, you know. But now he kind of like off that, so I'm kinda starting to, you know. That was definitely a phase, real quick for him. I feel like I ain't like that too much. I'm yeah, do you see a lot of this happening in music? Like the Rihanna Super Bowl, like Playboi Carti. Playboi Carti pissed me off.
A lot of that subliminally kind of demonic stuff going on? That was wild. Like what do you think that's about? Is it like yo, rap is demonic, bro? It doesn't have to be. Look at Nick next door. Apparently it is. I mean, yeah, don't put me in that category. Our biggest rappers are, you know. Is it the Illuminati? I think that's a good one. I'm telling niggas that, bro. It's something it's something. They don't believe in the Illuminati or none of that. They don't believe nothing I see. Like. Bro. Everything is the Illuminati. Not everything, but most stuff is the Illuminati. What's your actual definition of the Illuminati? Don't kill me, please. What do you if you had to describe to someone What's actually going on? I'm scared of y'all. Y'all got it. I swear to God. Let's pretend they're not listening. You know, the Illuminati is not listening right now. That they tuned out for this part of the of the episode. Well, what is the Illuminati? What do you think it is? A secret society that kills niggas and clone niggas. And make and make niggas, you know, turn that way. Is this something that actually keeps you up at night?
Are you actually concerned about this? Are you really concerned about this, Nick? Yes. Really? I'm 100% concerned about the Illuminati, but listen. If a if a nigga in a black suit walk up to me one day and be like, I heard about you. Next door, then he say my real name, Nicholas. And then he say my my middle name, my man's name, my last name, I said, man. Uh y'all get it though. Yeah, but yeah. But something outlandish, then I'm gonna be mad. And then he walk off like how I'll be in the movies. Nah. Like, you know how you ever watch the uh yeah, that doesn't happen. What's that? What's that movie though? Well, uh the Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The first one. How uh Gene Wilder is in the Illuminati, bruh. Charlie? No, uh what's his name? Grandpa Joe. No. What's the nigga who was uh the Oompa Loompa? I think it was him. The short orange fat rolly kind of guy. I think his name was stink something.
Stinkworth, oh bro. The evil dude that they say was trying to... Billingsworth or something. Billingsworth or something. I know what you're talking about. I know. Who gave him the Gobstopper? Who gave him the everlapsing gobstopper and was like, Yeah, he was like, don't fucking chew this. He was like, he was like, he had walk up to bro, he was like, Yeah, you give me this, I'm gonna give you the world. 10,000, you know. That's the Illuminati right now. I'm trying to tell you, bro. So he's in the Illuminati. If a nigga in a black suit walk up to you. So that's gonna give you the world, that's it. Listen, I'm trying to tell you, they go record you doing some stuff, and if you don't do what they say, you're done. I'm trying to tell you. Yeah, there is there has been like a shortage of black suits. If you watch House Party Day, own kid cutty, for sure. I don't know what I believe, but I do believe that the richest, most powerful, influential people in the world would probably want to remain anonymous, and they probably would want to pull strings. And like meet up from time to time. And have crazy meetings where they I don't know what if they're touching kids, hookers, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, no, still Epstein, drugs.
Let's move on, maybe. I think is what we should do now. Because you started bringing in some wild shit that I don't know, man. Hopefully they don't do that at the Illuminati. They definitely do that. Well, then I don't want an invite anymore. Do we know you know about BlackRock? No, come on, tell us. Let's not even go there. No, we need to Google BlackRock. They own everything. They own everything. You can't, okay. That's all I'm gonna say. Jesus. Moving on, bro. Part two of Please Don't Kill Us. Yeah. We're overlords. Listen, bro. I pray to God, I don't, bro. I pray. Yo, what other like irrational fears do you have? Yeah, is there anything? else? I don't like water. I can't swim. Maybe it's because I'm black. Yeah. Bro, I was so close to saying it. I'm glad you didn't Oh, no. You can't say it, bro. I was so close to asking. You can't say it. Nah, it's definitely because you don't you don't like the ocean, nothing of that? No.
I can't swim at all. I'm messing with it. It's funny. I did a front flip in a pool one time about drone. My sister had to save me. Yeah. For sure. It's funny because I I had two best uh friends in college that are both black, and and one, we love to like play into the stereotypes of like him, you know, not liking the like cold weather and snow and like not being able to swim, and then the other one was complete opposite, like phenomenal swimmer, loved the snow, and like cold, you know, just like the he like broke all the stereotypical mold, and then the other one was just like so far down all of the stereotypes, and so we like to just give each other shit about that. And I'm born and raised Jewish, and they love to anytime like you know, I didn't something that fit into any you know stereotypes there. They love to rub that in my face, and of course the white man, you're opening a savings account, huh? Oh, okay. Yeah, oh Ben, you Venmo'd me for the Wendy's uh dollar menu. Oh, damn. It's like that, huh? Yeah, so you know, you mentioned you're obviously you know big into basketball, you're a big hooper. Um, who's your favorite player?
LeBron. LeBron. Well, shout out Allen Iverson too. Allen Iverson is tough. What do you know about AI, bro? The truth. Bro, AI is one of the best players. Well, was one of the best players? You never even got to see him play. It don't matter. I watched him. That's how good he is. Wow, my soul watched him. Yeah, that's that's an old head move, too, bro. Even this even his basketball player choice is fucking old heady. Right. Bro, but Steve Francis was nice too. The franchise? Yeah. Bro, why what can't you name some like current players? My fault. Uh I've been in a Kyrie. I I mess with Kyrie. I've been in a recording session. He's a flat earther. I've been in a recording session. I ain't even gonna lie. Steve Francis. He might be Illuminati too, because like the back of his shoes, it had the little eye on it with the triangle. Yeah. He's tripping. I don't like that. No, it's but Kyrie might. I've been in a uh recording session with Steve Francis. He actually was trying to start a label about eight years ago and I was recording his artists. What? He was smoking BDs, those like old um like Asian cigarettes in the studio. What? Just bringing in artists, bro.
Shout out the franchise. That's insane. Yeah. All right. So what's your favorite team? Huh? What what's your favorite team? My favorite basketball? Yeah, I don't I don't even think I got one for real for like whoever LeBron goes, that's where I go. Uh well, yeah. That's how good LeBron is, too, bro. Yeah. They go. Uh so I'm not an NBA fan. Are people more fans of the players versus the teams? Or how does that work? I ain't even gonna lie, It's more the teams like Boston got a uh rabid fan base. Yeah, New York Knicks got a rapid thing, bro. Their fan base is wild. Okay. So if if one of their players leaves, they're like, fuck that player, then they're not like following. Oh, for sure. Yeah, for sure. If LeBron went to That's how I am with the Hawks. Oh yeah, Oklahoma City too. When they when KD left OKC. Yeah. fuck KD. They called him what they uh called him a cupcake or something. Cupcake. But y'all remember they had like cupcake signs with KD knowing him and stuff like that. Oh, bro. Shit. Bro, that's wild. I wasn't I wasn't so you're just not a fan because you don't there's
because South Carolina doesn't have a basketball team. Pretty much. Yeah, but if they did, yeah, you'd be diehard, probably. For sure. All right. For sure. This is a new segment presented by Yerba Mate. They're not a team. I was just about to say that. Yeah, yeah. They definitely need a team. This is a new segment presented by our partners, Guayaki with Yerba Mate, okay. We're gonna do one on. one more time. it's right up above your head. Guayaki. I can grab it. you can grab one. Yeah. Yeah. We got cold ones in the fridge, but yeah. If you want to drink that, it's got a lot of caffeine. If you want to just flash it up for our sponsor, yeah. Just like flash it up and give them a nice smile, a little nick next door smile. Yeah. So this segment is presented by Guayaki, Yerba Mate. Same thing. And whoa, we're looking at us like we owe them money for that, by the way. Yeah, yeah. So damn it, we should have made them sign a waiver. Um, so we're gonna do hypothetical one-on-one matchups, all right? It's you versus another rapper, okay? First and foremost, we're gonna go Nick next door versus Lil Uzi Vert in basketball. Who's winning?
Me. You. Game to 10. What's like the score? It's like you know, I ain't gonna lie, we probably gonna go back and forth just because like we both uh because you're both short. Yeah. Yeah, pretty much. All right, like 10 to 8. All right, yeah, yeah. Next matchup, we got uh Nick next door versus your favorite artist, J. Cole. I ain't going to be like a I ain't even gonna fake. He, if we have a series, he might beat me like one game. Bro, or like two games. He's spanking you, bro. He's tough, though. He's spanking you. You think you're taking it to a game six? I don't know why I'm spanking now. Spanking is crazy. You're gonna take it to a game six? Seven? Hell no. I don't know. LeBron Cleveland to 2016. No way. bro. No way. You got confidence. 3 1 comeback. I respect it. That was the year, for sure. That was the year. All right, all right. Who else is a. All right? Let's go with a white rapper just to make it, you know, just this Lil Dicky is nice at basketball.
He is. All right. All right. All right. So we're going Nick next door versus Jack Harlow. Ooh. Spanking zone. Oh, shit. Is it because he's white? No, bro. Curly hair. He can shoot and he can low-key dribble, but like he dribbled too slow. He's like another Luka Donich. Okay. Luka Doncic, yeah. Luka, aka like the best player in the league right now. Luka Doncic, the best player in the league. What about LeBron? I'm taking Luka, bro. For you. If I'm drafting a team, I'm taking Luka. Oh, for LeBron? of course. It's 2023, Nick next door. Exactly. Come on, man. What you mean? LeBron averaging 30 some points. Bro. Okay, I ain't even gonna lie. Luka Doncic is probably averaging more than that. But LeBron passed the ball, though. Luka don't pass the ball. He doesn't have to. He's putting it in the fucking net. You right. You right. You win that shit. Yeah. But it's still LeBron, though. I'm a LeBron fan. I'm an Ohio State fan. I fuck with, him. and he's an Ohio State fan. And to me, LeBron is the goat over Michael. Love you, Michael.
So I'm with you on that, bro. That's crazy. We're not gonna get into that. Let's not do LeBron and Michael right now. LeBron is the GOAT, bro. He is, bro. LeBron the goat. He is, bro. Michael Jordan not the goat. He's he's a very close number two. He yeah. Very close. He surpassed everything Michael Jordan did. So whoa is pissed. Well, he's about to throw up. Hey, Somebody put the camera over, please. Yeah, you know what I always wonder though? He look like a he look like a Michael Jordan fan. Look at his hat. He does. All right, so so we're, it's a Pittsburgh hat. So So we're all basketball fans, obviously, right? And so the classic debate amongst basketball friends is the Michael Jordan LeBron debate. Can we not? No, no, no. No, no. Just hear me out. Just hear me out. And they also got a Kyrie Allen Iverson debate, too. That's not a real debate. That's definitely a real debate. That is a real debate, but it's AI. Obviously. I feel like AI is more. That's a debate, though. But hear me out. They say Kyrie is more of a they say Kyrie a better dribbler and stuff like that. Ah, well we say they're done. AI started that jump. You know, yeah.
But so hear me out. So Michael Jordan and LeBron are both basketball players that have basketball friends. Do they have that? Do they have the debate? They have to. So I mean, they're obviously choosing themselves. I'm just like, of course, you gotta choose yourself. You don't get to that level without believing like that. You're the one. you're the chosen one. Yeah. You have to have that insatiable belief. Just like Nick has to have that about his artist career. You have to believe that you're the gonna be the one. You have to have that insatiable belief. Do you believe that? You're chosen for this. Um I feel like I'm gonna be mainstream for sure, making billions of dollars with these two people and my sisters in my family. Yeah. I don't want to, you know, I don't want to change on my gang, you know. Yeah, for sure. So I mean, if you get billions, like can the one more time podcast get like a few M's? A little kickback, you know what I'm saying? I'll throw y'all like a thousand. A thousand Damn. this is like some Jeff Bezos shit. It's like zero, zero, one percent. God,
Dang, bro. I'm a believer of giving back to the community. The community right here. Um, if we make a billion first, then you get a thousand. You get nothing, Nick. That's wild. After you just shit on us. I said I was just playing. Okay, let's do it. Okay, so now, no deal? Now you get no deal. 100K? Deal. Okay, for sure. 100k, lock it in. I'll do 100K. What did you just negotiate? Anyways, first one to a billion. It's a race. Build build your uh dream team of basketball players. AI. At the point, Steve Francis probably. At the two. Okay, yep. He's more of a, you know, uh you can play both. Yeah. Who's at the three? LeBron. Yeah. Awesome. Greatest. Katie Powerford. Okay. Do you still say fuck KD? Do you really hate KD? I don't hate KD, but he's not my dream but he's not my dream. Okay, fine. This isn't your team. Center. Center. Shit. God. I don't mind that. It's a fire team. Yeah. Except for KD. Who's yours? Six man. I mean, you know, I like it. Who's yours?
That's a good. I'm not gonna, I don't want to shit on this man's team. No, just give me your team. what team do you have? Yeah, yeah. Point guard. Who is it? Oh, I ain't even gonna lie, I definitely forgot about Steph Curry. I might have to throw him six man. Oh shit. Curry off the bench? But anyways, I don't know. I don't want to come on, bro. Oh, come on, fine. I ain't even gonna lie. I probably might switch Stephen Curry and Allen Iverson because Allen Iverson, he don't pass the ball like that. So we need a passer, even though we got LeBron in the starting lineup, but still we do we do need a point guard. I think you need I think you need Kareem in there. I think you need probably Kobe in there. You know, there's a couple, there's a couple people on the list, but we'll that's for another time. Yeah, Kobe five. Shout out, Kobe. Yeah. RIP. Indeed. So after you have a song like not in the streets that goes, you know, crazy, gets cosigns, you know, it's getting shared, etc. Lots of streams. Do you feel like the pressure for the next one to do even better? You know what I mean?
Like, yeah, is that is that even like ramping up the pressure that you feel? Yeah, I don't want to be a one hit wonder. That's one thing I'm working on. I'm not, I'm not even no, I don't want to be no one hit wonder. Which I'm not because I definitely have other songs that people love. Oh, yeah. Yeah, but like, yeah, I think it's trash. I gotta get all those songs to where I'm not in the streets. Yeah, is it Thrash is one of the records, right? Thrash. Yeah, Thrash is hard. That's one of my favorites. You got Speak Again. Yeah. That's off the tape too, right? Yeah. Yeah. And I feel like the song, one of the songs that I just dropped, Babe Junkie. Yeah. I feel like that's gonna be one of them too. So I know you said you're still not opposed to like making music on BandLab on your phone. Like, shout out to them. But like shout out BandLab. We love a sponsorship. They need to sponsor me. Yeah, but but like what We're making songs off your app for years. Lock in, bro. But like what clip that? What's your what's your uh what's your approach now, right? Like you've been in big studios now, right?
Like still like band lab better. Really? 100%. Is it because you're doing it yourself? You have more control? It's not even that because like it's better to have somebody do stuff for you. Someone that was maybe trained in like engineering for a long time. I like my alone time. Yeah, rapping in front of people or with people is kind of, you know. What about recording like your demos in BandLab and then taking those to a studio to record for real? I don't like that either because you don't, you don't sound, it's not the same. Yeah. it's not the same energy, the same passion you had when you wrote it. Yeah, yeah, I get that, man. I honestly do. Yo, how many producers are are like sliding in the DMs trying to get you packed? Sliding in the DMs? Oh nah. Hey, yo. Oh, nah. Come on, guys. You didn't have to just producers can slide in the DMs to slide B packs. I think sliding has a sexual connotation that you're missing here, Ben. What?
He walked in the DMs? No, just DMs. How many producers are DMing you? Just say that. He showed up in the DMs. Just the slide made it weird. He sent a DM. I'm trying to help you. That's better send it DM. How many producers have sent DMs? You don't have to send DM is a verb, bro. Just how many producers DM'd you? Fucking A, semantics. God. What? We got how many? It's a lot. I ain't gonna fake it. It's a lot. Shout out to all y'all though. Yeah, but sorry, most of these people... How do you, yeah, yeah. Like, do you listen to everything and I yeah. Try to. I respond to all my Instagram DMs, even if it's BS. I gotta stop doing that. I think that's a good thing for now. While you can handle it. Because I don't I don't want to be one of those rappers that's like, oh, this nigga Hollywood, he don't even respond back to his fans. Or or like, yeah. I don't want to be one of those rappers that just famous and don't, you know, got that little ego. That's great. That's amazing. Because we were talking about fan love the other day. And just like you responding to one person's DM might make them a ginormous fan of yours for their entire life.
They might buy the merch, they might show up to the show. You never know, man. But damn, this goes against everything in my like soul, but there is the argument, of course, for like that mystique that I'm just saying. I'm just saying being too accessible, people have, like, argued that that doesn't work. He's not marshmallow, bro. He's got a Mario hat on. He's like halfway there to the helmet. I might just change my name to Nikiji, you know. Nikiji. Nikiji. I'm gonna, I'm gonna get a blue hat with the, with the N on it. He's already switching sides. Yeah. From red to blue. There's not a blue. There's Waluigi is purple, Wario's yellow. I was going for I'm on the Nintendo thing. I was on the gang thing. Oh wow. No, I don't do no gangs. I know, it's in the song. We got it. You're not in the streets. We know I'm not in the streets. Nah, man. All them niggas out here, they're trying to kill me. I'm not in the streets. Why you trying to kill me for it? Right. Back up. The Lord is my fi. Bro, I the Lord is my fire.
I love your energy, man. I love the music. I love the folks that you got around you. Like these two guys off camera. I'm I promise you you're in good hands. We've entered a final segment of the podcast. Oh shit. Guayaki Yerba Mate. If you want to sponsor our rapid fire rampages, holla at you, boys. Nick, this is the Rapid Fire Rampage. It's gonna be It's serious now, Nick. Stop laughing. It's like really no, it's like it gets real intimate. I like to I talk like this now. Yeah, like don't smile either. Nick, this is gonna be a three-part rampage. We're gonna start with some short answer questions. Okay. I'll explain the rest. He's even doing it. Shut the fuck up, Ben. Okay. Okay. Part one. Giant leave. First question. Knock. Knock. Who's there? The one more time podcast. One more time. We had to get that out of the way. Okay.
Now that that's out of the way. Mm-hmm. Nick, you can ask God one question. What do you ask him? Can I go to heaven? Can I get in here? That depends. You're not God, Ben. Stop answering the questions. God. Okay. Nick, what is a childhood habit that you feel like you'll just you're gonna have to drop at some point to really make it big? Acting like a kid. I don't take nothing serious. Well, I do, but like more serious. Yeah, I like. There's a whole bunch of stuff that I don't take serious. Like... Nick, you can't. Don't tell me your grandma fell out this tourist. I'm gonna laugh. Well, it depends on how funny the fall was. I was on the phone with somebody. You know what I mean? Is she okay? If she's fine, then... I was on the phone with somebody, it was like grandma. Start laughing. That's kind of funny. Man. I mean, if she has life alert... I was like, what's going on? She was like, my grandma fell out this thing! she's got the little, you know, the button, she can life alert.
I'm just saying, I have a grandma fell out today. life alert. We love a sponsor. We're really reaching for sponsors in this episode. But I love grandmas, though. You know. Did our demographic just age by 50 years? Shout out to all the grandmas. I don't know. if 70 plus is tapped in with us. Shout out to all the mamas And the older ladies. Yeah, shout them out. Come on, Nick. Where you momma at? Speaking of sliding in the DMs, bro. Where you momma? The yo, what's mama, nigga. Grannies. The DMs are open. Slide, slide on in. Can I finish this rampage? I love my cougars. Cougars. Can I finish this rampage? Cougars hit me up right now. Oh my god. Dude. He's trying to get Don't want no young girls. I asked about a childhood habit. I'm finna make a song about y'all. Oh my God. Oh, shit. It's finna be called hashtag I love cougars. I gotta put the hashtag in there. Nick, I have a few more questions. Granny love. My fault. Sorry. Nick, you can collab with any three artists right now.
Oh my god. You collab with any three artists. Who do you pick? Who would you like to collab with? Three of them. J. Cole. Let's go. One. Tony Snow. Oh, Two. What's another artist? I'll collab it. Oh, that's hard. Probably a little double O. He's hard. A double O. Nick, how much money would it take right now for you to permanently quit music? You gotta give me two B. Two Bs. Two. Bs. Matter of fact. A hundred. Fat Bs. A hundred Bs. A hundred Bs. You come with that B, that's that weak shit. That's well I do. Name about a hundred of them. And finally, Nick, what is your favorite curse word? None. I don't curse. I'm lying. Yes, I do. Sorry, man. I'll let you know how it go. We can bleep it out. I'll be getting mad sometimes. We can bleep it out. Um. I don't know. I think it's nigga. There you go. Fair enough. part one. Part one.
Pretty good part one. That was good. Part two is the this or that. Nick, I'm gonna give you two choices. I feel like such a bad influence, bro. You are because you're talking in the middle of the rampage. No, but like the mom. She'll be she'll be all right. We're going to censor it. I'm going to censor it. I'm going to censor it. Part two. We just got Nick the belt, bro. This or that. Here we go. Real deal child abuse. Why you think I'm wrong with Switch for? with Switch for rapping or singing? Rapping. Snares or claps. Polyclaps. Guitar or horns? Guitars. Math or science? Science. Hot or lemon pepper? Lemon pepper. Pirates or aliens? Aliens. TikTok or YouTube? TikTok. Win the lottery or find your soul mate. Lottery? Part two. Give him the give him that check. His generation, man. I know I hate his generation. Yeah, me too. I love mine. Last part is the word association.
Nick, I'm going to say one word. And you are going to give me the first word right back off the top of your head. Maybe two. But keep it short. Here we go. Starting with hip hop. Like name a rapper? Just the first, whatever your thought. First thought. Anything. J. Cole. Florence. South Carolina. Salt. Pepper. Police. F12. Booty. I love it. Mars. Pluto. Bomb. Your house. Damn. Like, like, like Henry's specifically? Nah. But you know, maybe. No, like. My intrusive thoughts be all over the place. This is what we're trying to get to. This is good. My intrusive thoughts telling me to just smack my hand on the table. Break my hand, but I'm not finna do that. I guess the interview didn't go very well. I don't know. We got a few more here.
