Kid Hazel Interview: 21 Savage's Producer Brings Holistic Healing to Hip-Hop
Kid Hazel is signed to 21 Savage's label "Slaughter Gang" as an in-house producer. It's his job to ensure Savage and the other roster artists are consistently loaded up with fire beats. Hazel is unlike any other producer we've met: dripped out in a dragon pendant and amethyst crystal, owns a vegan Seamoss company, and uses phrases like "crown chakra" and "mercury retrograde". In this episode we discuss how he got signed to 21 Savage, bringing holistic practices into the music industry, his opinion on paid producer collabs, and much more!

You get some sea moss, you get those minerals inside your system, and you'll be able to really feel a total difference. If you producers out there having a beat block, go get you an amethyst crystal. It's going to Open your crown chakra up, and then your mind is gonna be able to get ideas. It's beautiful too. I was like, it's also just stylish. I mean rare drip. Yeah. Hazel Bust Now in a spiritual way. One more time. One more time. Spin it, rock, spin it, one more time. Make it, baby, one more time. I am beyond thrilled to be welcoming in our guest on the One More Time podcast, legendary actor, you know him from Barbershop. And too fast, too furious. It's Michael Ealy. Michael. I I knew a goal of ours for 2024 was to enter into the film industry. I didn't think we were gonna do it this quickly at this caliber. Immediately. This is insane. Crazy. You know. Okay, all jokes aside, we have we have legendary Slaughterhouse gang producer or slaughterhouse, Jesus. Slaughter gang producer. Yes. We got Kid Hazel in the building. Kid Hazel. Swing the sword.
Swing the swords. Yes, sir. All right, just to rattle off a few names he's worked with. We got 21 Savage, obviously. We got Young Nudie, Coi Leray, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, and many more. So I I was I was chatting with you before this, and like I peep, you know, you've been working with some new new names that I wasn't really familiar with. So I was actually excited to kind of like do my research for this, picking up on some new artists. So like just let's go ahead and get it out there. Like, who are you excited about that you've been working with as of recent? Uh honestly, man, like I've been on a run of just, you know, working with up and coming artists, because I feel like every producer, like, you know, you can always get placements with artists that are already big and already, you know, on their caliber, but it's like every producer has an artist that they came in and you know saying build it up from ground zero. And I feel like I want to be able to do that to be able to really, you know what I'm saying, call myself a producer, you know what I'm saying? A composer, really, you know what I'm saying? But uh so you still have that imposter syndrome right now? Of like not feeling like a real producer? I mean,
I feel like a real producer, you know, just based off of like, you know, my thought process when it comes to like making music and stuff. But at the same time, I want to feel like, okay, I worked with someone from ground zero, and then now they've become, you know what I'm saying, the huge artists or a Grammy-winning artist, you know what I'm saying? Like, that's a true mark. Yeah, you know, all the great producers, you're like, you can go back down the line and you know they all did that. They all did that. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. I was watching 50 Cent um documentary, and they were talking about how like M found 50, and then you know, but Dre found M, and then M found 50, took 50 back to Dre, and then like everything that transpired from that. I'm like, whoa, like, you know, so it really inspired me to want to like do that. You know, shout out my brother Coop. Coop been really doing it. I've been watching how Coop been doing one more time alumni. We had Coop on the show. Exactly. And he's going insane right now. I mean, the sounds that he's building with like Kenny, and obviously, like he's been tapped in with Nudie pretty heavy. Yeah, 100%.
Been tapped in with Nudie, but it's like I feel like now they've cultivated they, you know what I'm saying? It's like next level now. He was just around and like catching a few here and there. Exactly. But now it's like it's crazy. But it's hard though, man, because you could easily just be like, fuck that. I'm just gonna keep getting these crazy placements. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's kind of it's inspiring, man, that that you are wanting to like bet it all on on folks early because you could be just really comfortable and be like, all right, like Savage is Savage, and the the slaughter gang is slaughter gang, and whoever they know, I know now. So like you could get real cozy. Yeah, and hopefully that inspires some of you guys who have no other choice but to like try to build with people, you know? Even people at the highest level are, you know, hoping to build and create something special with someone. So, like, if that's your only option, like, you know, it's a pretty good option for sure, man. Facts, facts. So, so all right. So, the sword swing, the sword swinging. Why is that so hard to say?
Sword swinging, sword swinging. Sword swinging, sword swinging the The W is silent, Ben. the sword swinging tag. Yes, yes. sir. Like, what was the thought process behind not wanting words? You know what I mean? Like, I was trying to think of like, first of all, who else does that? Yeah, so when I first, when I first started thinking about it, I first started working with Savage just like 2018. And, you know, I was like, you know what? I like how it's like he got, you know, this the dagger on his forehead, you know what I'm saying, represents a lost loved one. It's something, you know, and it has a significant meaning. So I'm like, slaughter gang is just like it carries that slasher energy, you know what I'm saying? So I was like, I'm gonna have I went through a big pack of sounds that just had like Foley sounds like movies and like effects, and I ended up coming across that sword slash, and then from there, I just started using it in my beats because I was also inspired by how like Lex Luger, he had um, you know, the little Lex Luger, like riser with a riser, you know, before the the beat would drop, you know, yeah, that's Lex Luger on the beat. That's the best example.
So I remember Like coming up in that era, like making beats like 2014, 2015, and watching how they was doing it, watching how Metro had to laugh, you know what I'm saying, and like seeing how they was using sounds, you know, to be able to like identify themselves in a way that inspired me to do that, you know what I'm saying? And 808 mafia with the siren, yes, true. When you hear the siren, you know the Kill Bill siren, you know that's an 808 Mafia beat. Yep. Yeah, we talked to Kenny Beats about how like so many poser producers will use that siren. Oh man, yeah. Because like, what if someone started throwing your same sound effect in beats? Yeah, it's kind of whack, right? Yeah, people do it. You know I've heard a lot of, you know, I've heard it a lot. You know, what I'm saying? I feel like there's two approaches to dealing with that. There's one that's like flattered. You're like, oh shit, like I'm lit. Producers are fucking taking my like you know, sword, you know, slashing sound. But then there's also the like fuck y'all. Yeah, yeah. You're not, you're not Hazel. Nah, so fall back. For sure, for sure.
Because I I battled with like both in the beginning. I would be like, like, man, like these people trying to. So I would get mad, but then I would think about it, I would be like, you know, I would make beats back then, you know, trying to mimic 808 mafia beats, putting the the siren on there. And then, you know, so it was more so like, okay, you were one of them. It was cool. Yeah, I was like, I was before that myself. So like I wouldn't, I wasn't tripping, but then it's like at the same time, I if I see somebody do it and they make it unique in their own way and they figure out their own way to do it, then that's different. You know what I'm saying? But when a producer like use it the same way I use it, then it's like okay, yeah. You're not even trying to be original. You know what I'm saying? So pitch it up or just slow it down or reverse it or do something. Yeah, yeah. So you know, it's all good though. So probably our biggest video to date was a producer tag draft. So it has like eight million views on TikTok. It's probably one of our biggest views. It's our biggest video for sure. Um, and you know, we had our own choices, but I wanted to ask you, give us like your top three producer tags. I would say the old Metro tag.
Which one boomer wants some more? Yeah, yeah. That one was hard. It's fire. Fire. Um the 808 Mafia tag, but not the stutter siren. The one I was like, 808 mafia. The high one. Yeah, that one was hard. Anytime you hear that, I'm like, oh yeah, they're finna go crazy. Um to end it out. Yeah, one more. I would say Sonny Digital. Yeah. We just had his interview. Yeah. So you got to be. Shout out Sonny Digital. You know what I'm saying? It's interesting, man, because I feel like also when we pick them, like, depending on how much you like the producer, that's so bi, like it weighs so it weighs so heavily on, you know, I was trying to be objective with my picks, but at the same time, I definitely was just letting like because you've been vocal about being influenced by those people. Yeah, for sure. So like you're basically just listing your top top three influences. You're like, their tags are the best. You just start to equate those tags. Like you said, when you hear that 808 mafia tag, it's gonna be hard.
The best, the best. Like when you make a beat and then you put the 808 mafia tag on there, I feel like it make the beat harder. That's what Kino said about the siren. Yeah, He was working on a beat that was wack. He added the siren, he was like, This beat's fire. Exactly. You know, back in the day though, like we, you know, this is before we got a chance to, you know, get in and meet different producers and actually become, you know, friends of theirs. When we was just producers coming up, it was more so like that generation of producers was using those tags on the beats just to test it out. Like often to put Metro tag on there and see how it sounds is to test it out. You know what I'm saying? I feel like it's a general, like I look at like the producer eras as like draft class, you know, like draft classes of producers. Like, I feel like each era had his you know draft class of producers, and I feel like now it's moving into like the future. So it's like, you know, you got new, you got kids, you know, learning how to make beats and beats coming out going crazy, you know what I'm saying? So it's like I feel like the past and the and the future are gonna coincide in one dimension.
You feel what I'm saying? Because the past is the present and the future at the same time. So shit. You know what I'm saying? Oh, hazel. I think those necklaces are doing something crazy right now, bro. Tell us what you're wearing right now. Oh, yeah, man. This is this is a dragon pendant, you know what I'm saying? Oh, dragons. What does it mean? So the dragons are one of the most oldest beings that, you know, that exists in the universe. You know, if you watch Dragon Ball Z, you know, you would have to call the dragon up to make a wish. Okay. You know what I'm saying? So when you go back into like ancient Sumerian text and you go back to, you know, ancient documents that were even, you know, left behind, it tells you about, you know, the winged serpent or it tells you about the serpent side of the brain. But in many texts, it's, you know, equated into a religion, and then it's like, okay, this is bad, this is good, this is good, this is bad. But when you go back to the pure energy, you look into, you know, every human when you're born, you start off, you know, as embryos, but it's like it looks like a dragon. It looks like a little like if you look at that diagram with the the baby of a of a cow, embryo, human, shark, dog, and it's like it's all one similar type of embryo that resembles like a dinosaur, kind of like looking thing.
If you look it up, and it goes back into like people researching that, you know, the ancient genetic leak to that type of being, you know, saying is inside, you know, everything they say, you know. So when you go into the, you know, seeking wisdom, protection, power, then you go to the dragon. Oh. Damn, bro. I'm about to cop my dragon necklace tomorrow. bro. Yeah, dragons have significance and even in, you know, lore and history, you know, back when you go to feudal Japan, they had dragons around. And they're peaceful, you know, they've got good and bad to everything. You got good dragons and bad dragons, but for the most part, dragons are peaceful beings. They coincide, they take care of the earth. They're nice. You're Not all just burning down villages. Yeah, nah, yeah, exactly, exactly. If a dragon's doing that, then that dragon got pissed off because somebody stole something or something like that. You did something wrong. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah. And then the other piece, um, this is an amethyst. You know, amethyst is a type of crystal that connects to the crown chakra. You know what I'm saying?
You got seven chakras in your body. You know what I'm saying? So the crown chakra is where you get your ideas, where you get your, you know, your thoughts. You know, even when you go to making music or making beats, when you have a beat block, every producer has beat blocks. Now I promise you, if you producers out there having a beat block, go get you an amethyst crystal. Ooh. You know what I'm saying? You're real, you're like you're standing on this shit. Standing on it. For real. Damn. bro. Get you an amethyst crystal and then try to make beats again and see how you think. You know what I'm saying? I think you could use, I think you could use an amethyst crystal. Yeah, I've got like a six-month beat block going through right now. Yeah, man, I'm telling you, bro. Go get you an amethyst. Literally. Yeah, go get you an amethyst. Okay. And it's gonna open your crown chakra up, and in your mind is gonna be able to get ideas. It's beautiful too. I know. Thank you. I was like, it's also just stylish, you know, like I mean rare drip. Like, yeah, All around. You know what I'm saying? it's my type of bust down. It's my hazel bust down a spiritual way. And that's Henry's type of bust down. You know what I'm saying?
Ain't nothing wrong with some diamonds and glitz and glamour, but you know, I like things that power my energy up. For sure. So just while we're on the topic, shout out to uh swing the sea moss. Yes, yes, got Swing the sea moss. Yes. Vegan Sea moss gummies. You know, sea moss gummies contain 92 out of 102 minerals that the human body's comprised of. So, you know, you got minerals like zinc, magnesium, manganese, serotonin, you know, saying iodine, all types of minerals that your body's comprised of, you know, it's all the size sea moss. So, you know, especially musicians, producers, songwriters, you know, artists in general. We be up late. We have zero hours of sleep. You know, we eat crazy things because it's the only thing up that's late in your working hours. Your circadian rhythm could be completely thrown off. And that could be the reason why you could be feeling unhealthy, or the reason why you could be depressed, or the reason why your mind can be going through certain changes. I promise you, you get some sea moss, you get those minerals inside your system, and you'll be able to really feel a total difference. You know what I'm saying?
Man, so we made sea moss in a um, you know, a more easy to take way, because you don't re it doesn't require refrigeration because they're dehydrated. You know, so you can just, you know, take it on the go two a day, that'll be equivalent to you taking a full tablespoon of sea moss. You know, and it's only three ingredients fruit extract, sea moss, and coconut sugar. That's it. Damn it. Fire. Swing the sea moss. Swing the sea moss. All right, hell yeah, man. I'm interrupting this podcast with a very special announcement. February 9th, here in Atlanta, Georgia, at the center stage vinyl. Tickets are available now at omtpresents.com. Go cop yours today, and now back to the episode. So, you know, you mentioned obviously the the benefits it it has when it comes to like, you know, unlocking creativity or like giving you energy, dealing with some of those like late nights, you know, where you're maybe like stressed out and working hard, et cetera. Like, you seem like someone who has really at least done your best to like master the the mindfulness that is associated with this music shit, right?
Because I know a lot of our audience is like stressed the fuck out, like overwhelmed, trying to figure out how am I gonna make it, what should I be doing? Like, you know, the anxiety is there, whatever. Like what's the biggest like shift you had when it come, when it came to like in music, how the mindset like aspect played into it, you know what I mean? I feel like there's times where all producers, like, you can get frustrated, like you can get frustrated, you know your beats is hard, you're like, yo, my beats are hard, I'm sending them out, nobody ain't getting on them. You know, it could be a test that the universe has in place for you to master certain elements of the way you think. You know what I'm saying? Because you could be thinking that, oh, this is not going my way, this is not going my way, and it could drive you to go negative, or you can let things not go your way and say, you know what, I'm gonna just stay down. I'm gonna just, I'm gonna just keep working. I'm gonna just keep my mind flowing. And then nine times out of ten, when you do that, it's gonna like the energy is gonna go in your favor because you took the lash and you and you like, you know what? I'm not gonna get out of character.
I'm not gonna, you feel what I'm saying? So I notice anytime you feel down, just try to ride the emotions. You know what I'm saying? Because a lot of the times you could be feeling down just because it could be just the planetary alignment is off. It could be like a retrograde, you know, Mercury retrograde, and you you don't understand why you, you know what I'm saying? So your mind can shift. So I I feel like just kind of staying true to what you believe in at the end of the day, know that you know, everything is gonna go your way as long as you continue to put the work in. Yeah, that's it. We get we talk about that all the time with the podcast. It's like the one thing that we have done differently that we can point to is like literally never quitting. Even if we didn't feel like maybe doing an interview, we didn't feel like you know, keeping stuff going sometimes, the views aren't there. And then we just didn't stop, and we like even when we felt down about it, we never stopped. And fast forward to now. We got kid Hazel on the set. For sure. So I appreciate you. So what can you point to that has been the hardest part mentally? Just being a producer, right? Like what's what's been the biggest challenge for you, like mentally speaking? Um, knowing you got a song out and knowing that the song is out, and you still not receiving your money yet.
I love that, bro. You know what I'm saying? That's it though. Yeah, that's it. That's it. You know what I'm saying? Like, you can know you got a song out, you know what the advance is gonna be, you know that it's supposed to be there, and you know you kind of you need it, you know. You need it, especially when it's you know, flowing in, you're like, yo, I need this. You know, what I'm saying? so it's like, and then it gets delayed, and then labels take their sweet time, things like that. That's one of the most frustrating things because it's like it's almost like starving and then having a big plate of platter with everything you desire, everything you want. But there's like a lock with a lock with a titanium, see-through. Yeah, it's see-through, yeah. There's a big plate of chicken parm and a fucking lock box, you don't know the code. But there's little holes so you can smell it. It's yours though. It's yours. That's the song being out. Yeah, everyone's playing the song. The song's going crazy. It's gonna be fire. You see the streams going up, yeah. You're just not getting paid. It's hard. There's no manual till that teaches you even how to like ask for an advance or how many should you get point, you know, points on the master, like how many, how much publishing do you get?
Yeah, but but that's why you have Bernie Gets You Paid. Yeah, Bernie gets you paid. As the motherfucking lawyer. Bernie gets you paid and Meezy. My manager Meezy. Shout out Meezy. Shout out Meezy, man. Shout out to Megan Meezy. Yes. By the way, he agreed to come on the pod, and then he had, but he didn't text me back, so we're gonna and Bernie was already on the pod. Oh, okay. Yeah, we've had Bernie. So we had she's our only lawyer that's been on the pod. And she was dropping fucking gems. Yeah, that's the goat. Yeah. Like them two together, bro. Like unstoppable. Meezy don't play. Meezy going to hit, he going to hit whoever he got to hit. Yeah. Hey. Like, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, what is he like as a manager? Oh, he cool as hell. Yeah, he cool as hell. You know what I'm saying? But is he going to war? Yeah, he's going to war for Hazel. He's swinging the sword. Come on, man. He's Swinging the sword, He's swinging it all, man. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes he'll just post those, like, I don't know if they're even tweet posts, but they're just like iPhone note like posts, and it's just him like saying some like, y'all better watch the fuck out type of vibes. And I'm like, I get a little bit nervous for whoever's on the receiving end of that.
Like, he's clearly directing that to someone, and I'm so glad it's not me. I never want to read one of those, and like we have an exchange before that, and it'd be like, Ben, that was that was for you. Yeah, at the same time, he's super cool though. So it's like it'd be people that like you gotta rub Meezy the wrong way. Like, you know what I'm saying? He's not gonna never come off like crazy or come off tripping or anything like that. He's all about respect. So I feel like as long as he like respect is given, no matter what situation, then it's gonna be mutually, you know what I'm saying, distributed. For sure. You know, so you're somewhat recently back from uh, you know, 21 Savage's homecoming tour in Europe. Oh man, that's crazy that that's homecoming. Crazy. Yeah, exactly. Crazy process that's crazy, bro. Yeah, I mean, like, so you know, as someone who's an in-house producer for Slaughter Gang, what what's your role when you go on a tour like that? Catch the vibe, make beats. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Catch the vibe, make beats. Just be in different environments to that.
Yeah, different environments. Like at the end of the day, like my goal at the end of the, you know, at the end of the day, is to make something super hard for Savage. Make sure he got the vibe he needs, make sure whatever vibe he, you know, think about is what I can produce. So I feel like going different places definitely helped out my creativity when it comes to the beats. You know what I'm saying? A lot of stuff coming this year, you know what I'm saying? Top of the year. You know, so that was made out there. Oh, nah, just in general, like, you know what I'm saying? from my travels and stuff that I've been making, it's been a lot different. A lot of different vibes have been getting curated. You know what I'm saying? Um, this isn't the first tour that you've been on with him, right? Nah, I've been on four tours. First tour when I first signed with Slaughter Gang, I went on post on tour of post Malone for three months. Damn, wow. Yeah, I turned 23 on tour. Okay. Yeah, yeah, man. And and so, like, compare and contrast that first tour with 21 Savage and Post Malone and this homecoming tour for 21 Savage. It was crazy.
You know what I'm saying? Cause it was it was big tour with post, big tour. He did his own tour after I am I was, then he did a tour with J. Cole and tour with Drake, and then the overseas tour. And that homecoming tour was crazy because it's like you see people in a completely different country that like love slaughter gang, love savage, like showing straight, genuine love, you know what I'm saying? Oh, he reached like superstar level, I feel like Oh, yeah. Since then. this last year has been like Yeah, for sure. For sure, for sure. Like super crazy. You know what I'm saying? He worked for it, and you gotta look at where he came from. Like, you know, he you know, you know, you thrown into the pit, you know, with the sharks and thrown a little afloating, like, all right, figure it out. You know what I'm saying? Man, He figured it out, conquered the sharks. You know, it's like have you seen 300? Yeah, yeah. Remember when King Leonidas got exiled and he came back and he had to fight the lion? Yeah.
And not the lion but the wolf. And then he ended up going back home. I feel like that's what like it was for it was like for Savage. Cause like, you know what I'm saying? He was put in a situation to where he could have easily, you know, not made it, could have easily been in jail, could have easily been dead, and you know, kept it true, stayed down, it kept working, and then you know, the rewards, the fruit of your labor is always gonna bear fruit. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? The tree of your labor is gonna bear fruit. For sure. His tree is strong. Yeah, for sure. So, like on a tour this massive, right? Like where I mean he's selling out the O2 arena in fucking London, right? I mean, like it's just it's going nuts. Yeah. Like, what what's a day in the life looking like for the whole slaughter gang in general, right? Like, what are y'all up to? I'm just like trying to like, what are y'all doing over there? You know what I mean? What's a day in the life like? We kick back, you know, we chill, we go get clothes, we go to shout out live fast, die young. It's a uh Germany-based brand. They showed a lot of love to us.
Okay, hooked us up with a lot of clothes, you know, go see different things. Like the day in life of Kid Hazel out there is just really get up, you know, shout out my brother Cru-Op, crucial. You know, we had the same room in London for the whole week. So we just get up, you know, move around, just meet people. You know what I'm saying? For me, go to the studio, find studios, yeah, cook up with other producers out there. Okay, cool. So you were linking up with people that were there? Okay, sweet. Yeah, linked up with some people. How about like touristy shit? Were you doing that? Uh not really. Not really. Yeah, because I'm you know, I'm I'm plant-based. Um, you know, I'm raw. I'm I'm like 80% raw vegan. So, you know, I can consume raw living foods. So I'm when I get to a new city, a new country, I'm looking for food. Because there's not many places. You gotta plan that shit out. That's that's what's consuming the time. Yeah, that's what's consuming a lot of time. You gotta find food. You know, it's a you know, a lot of good places in Paris, a lot of good places in Amsterdam that I found I was bussing. Wow, really?
Bussing. Yeah, I was going every day. Once I find a place, I go there every day. Because I feel like I'm kind of nervous for you to even like leave your home base of like, I mean, you know, with with with dietary restrictions in general, like that's it's overwhelming. I mean, most people that go on tour, shout out to like a few artists friends of mine that have gone on like significant tours. They came back like fat as hell, like out of shape, even though you think that you'd be in shape because you're like performing every night. It's like, no, you're eating terribly, you're drinking, yeah, you're doing drugs, whatever else you're up to. The drinking gets can get crazy. You know, a lot of people the drinking can get crazy because it's like I'm someone who doesn't drink, I don't even drink. But like on tour, sometimes you're like, oh I'm gonna catch a vibe, like you know, I'm gonna catch a vibe, yeah. The drink, you know, but then over time you're like, oh yeah, this, you know, that's not this ain't me. I'm like, ah, I don't you know what I'm saying? So yeah, you know, and drinking is just like it causes you know negative forces, I mean, when You get drunk all the time, and I feel like it's not really positive, you know. So I feel like over time, you know, you could balance it out, you know.
There's always you don't want to be too positive and you don't want to be too negative, you want to kind of find a you know a balance, but I feel like you know, proper consumption of everything, you know. But I feel like tour can accelerate that. Yeah, what was one of those meals that you had that was just killing it and you went back and got it multiple times? Oh man, Give us one. When I was in uh Amsterdam, it's this place called uh Alchemist Garden in Amsterdam. Crazy name already. Bus. Man, when I walked in there, they said, Oh, you know, everything was raw. I'm like, okay, bet. You know, I got like three four things. Like every time I go somewhere, I get like three, four things. I like, I eat like Goku. Like I gotta have like four or five plates on the table when I consume and I just eat it all. Whoa. Yeah. Um so I got all my stuff and then they were like, oh yeah, we gotta ground you. And I'm like, whoa, you gotta ground me? They're like, yeah, let me see your wrists. I strapped up this thing to my wrist and then plugged me in the wall. Oh this was like next was like okay drive the thing on my wrist and plugged me in the wall. Grounded on my electricity because your body is made out of, you know, we run off electricity.
That's why when your people's heart stop, they gotta get it defibrillated and shock you. Uh-huh. Because electrical volt is what's gonna start it back up because your electrical system. So, whoa. When you know when you we wear rubber soles all the time, you know, we don't really take our shoes off or take our socks off and ground in nature very seldom do people do that. So you know nine times out of 10 you're likely not to be grounded. So when you ground yourself you feel the instant relief of free radicals an instant relief of almost like all inflammatory pains in your extremities and your joints so when I did it when they plugged me up I sat down I felt more relaxed than I felt all week. Wow plugged them up that's why Rick Rubin doesn't wear shoes. Yeah Rick yeah yeah same same idea Same reason. Yeah. feeling the earth feel the earth yeah you know because you can connect with the earth you know what I'm saying? Yeah. I'm learning so much right now yeah we might meditate afterwards. I'm like yeah this might not be like I don't know this might be helpful in so many different ways that like it's not our normal like this isn't our isn't our normal helpfulness like yet but it's like it's not like what snare do you use? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. but I'm like, damn, like I maybe I should ground myself after this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You should Ground yourself.
Because sometimes you you know, very rarely will you get a chance to ground yourself where you get a chance to let some sunlight hit you. You know what I'm saying? It's a lot of things that we need as humans that we very rarely get compared to our ancestors. Right. We would have been getting it all the time. We would have been outside all the time, you know. It's far from what the natural human body's natural habitat will once was. You know. So so when did you make this shift? Like, were you making music uh already, and then you shifted to kind of like start adopting some of these like mindfulness and like well health and wellness stuff? Um or were you already doing this before your music journey really even started? So it started off when I was a kid. I wanted to become a doctor. Like I wanted to, I really wanted to be a doctor real bad, like to the point to where I was like, my animal had an iguana and it died. And I was trying to figure out how it died, so I caught myself doing an autopsy and like trying to figure out what caused this illness. You know, I was just my mind was just thinking differently as a kid.
So as I got older, I instead shifted from being a medicinal doctor to a holistic, wanting to, you know, look into the holistic practices. So it wasn't until about 2016, you know, I was I was making beats, but I was just, you know, on the come up, just you know, making my beats, sending my beats out, you know, just doing that. And uh that's when I first started like kind of like taking herbal teas, you know, taking different things like that. But it would be Sodom. and then looking into more information, it ended up causing me to learn more from different people. I met an African brother of mine's name, his name is Y. He um, you know, taught me a lot about esoteric knowledge and you know, going into you know, different types of practices that help you unlock knowledge and you know, understanding that the human body, like the wisdom is within you, you know, at the end of the day, because every book that was ever wrote was thought about. Even if it was fact, it was still, you know, hypotheses, hypothesized on, and then came to a conclusion.
And then, okay, this is fact, and it jotted down. So when you go back to the the origin of just a thought or idea, you realize that it comes from within. You know what I'm saying? Even how people write different scribes and different ancient religious books, it was a thought or something that somebody, you know what I'm saying? So I started getting into that, then you know, me and my brothers, we would congregate and just build more and more information, and it just started making sense, you know. So, you know, I try to like, I'm not perfect by any means. I'm always learning and growing, you know, but I promote for other people to also try to, you know, it doesn't, I'm not saying, hey, go vegan tomorrow, but try certain things like, you know, that can be beneficial. Yo, well what the fuck does Savage say about all this? Like, I'm just imagining like 21 Savage hearing all of this and like I don't know what his like what's his response to how you are? Like I feel like I feel like he fucked he fuck with it. Okay. He have you gotten him to like try any of this shit. Savage is really smart, like no, he definitely is.
He's like people don't give him enough credit. I feel like I've heard multiple interviews where I'm like, okay, this dude. He real tuned in too. Like he's very observant. So he like there's a lot of things that you know he might have already known about or you know, different things that we talked about, like, oh yeah, he like this is that. And like, yeah, that, you know, for sure. Okay, you know, but uh, you know, he he fucks with the herbs too, you know. He he will, he will, you know. Is he eating the sea the uh sea moss? Yeah, he he he he he messed with the sea moss too. Okay, yeah. He I ain't gonna lie, I gave some sea moss to Travis Scott Um on the Drake tour. Sure. And he even I gave him a pack and then I saw him again at another show, and I was like, yo, how'd you like the sea moss? He was like, yo, he was like, I need some more. He was like, I need give me like three of them. You know what I'm saying? People be, you know, rocking with him. A lot of people rock with him because they've heard of sea Moss, because you know, we're in the age of awakening, we're in the age of information now. So it's like a lot of things are coming out when it comes to like different types of health supplements and all types of little like you know, Sheila G, sea moss, you know, all types of stuff. So they may have heard about it, but they didn't have access to it yet.
So I feel like I like to be the beacon of you know, reception when it comes to sea Moss, because I'm already in the studio with you. I'm already around. Here's some sea moss. You know, every time you see me, then you see some sea moss. Bro, we need a cactus jack, swing the sword, fucking or swing the sea moss collaboration. That'd be hard. Right? Yeah, that'd be hard. We need that, bro. Travis, let's make it happen, bro. Let's do it. all right, so you know, obviously, I know that you were like, you know, grinding away at Costco when obviously your life changes. Like, how did you actually enter the world of like slaughter gang though in 21 Savage? Because I I feel like I I know a little bit about like how you quit your job to like go full-time producing and shit, but I'm not really quite sure that I understand and like tell our audience how you actually entered into like okay, we want this guy, yeah, Kid Hazel, to be our like in-house producer at Slaughter Gang. Like, how did how did that transition actually happen? It all transitioned from, you know, it was me making beats. I was making beats, making beats, making beats, making beats.
That's all I did. Like working at Costco, I'd bring my laptop with me. I would make beats there in the break room. I'll go home after closing. I would I was was working in the bakery, so they would have me cleaning up like the chocolate off the floor. I'd be sneaking and making little muffins and cookies and stuff Okay. I'm like, man, I'm gonna make me some. Y'all tripping. Y'all made a mess. But uh yeah, I would I would do all that, go home and make beats and just continue that. And I ended up making the since when beat. The since when beat, I had I thought about offset in mind when I made it. I was like, this sound kind of like I was inspired by Bad and Bougie, the beat, how the 808 switched up and like how Metro did that. So I ended up making the sense when beat. And then I ended up getting uh Young Nudy's email, and then I sent Young Nudy the Since When beat in a pack. Shout out DJ BJ. DJ BJ opened the email because at the time he was going through the beats off of you know the internet, just looking for beats. And he happened to stumble on my email and then pull that beat up. Nudie did it, got Savage on it.
And then Savage had had Meezy hit me up. And he was like, yo, Meezy, I don't know where the song drives. I'm like, oh, should I see the snippet? I'm like, oh it's you know, it's happened, you know, it's happening. Because after Narcs happened before that, yeah. So I was already like hype, like happy about that. Because I found Lil Baby, he had like 50,000 followers, and then that's when I hit him up. Damn. Yeah, it was like beginning. So I was happy about that. And then the Since When came around, I seen that snippet. I was like, yo, this is getting crazy. And then after that, next thing you know, Measy DM'd me and was like, yo, Savage, fuck with you. He said he, you know, you know, you sign anybody, you know, how are you? Da-da-da-da. And I was like, nah, I'm not. Da, da, da, da. And then he was like, Oh, yeah, man, he wants you to be uh slaughter game, man. He wants you to be his producer. So I was like, Wow, what but like what off of one beat? I'm like, Yeah, Savage no is it at this is amazing. Like for all you out there that just send packs to people, never hear anything, and you get discouraged. Like, yeah, like that's how this shit happens.
Like it can happen. Yeah, it can happen. And mind you, I started making beats in 2013. So I was sending beats out for 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, Five years. That's also a very good point to clarify. You know what I'm saying? I was doing it. I was grinding it for five years, sending out thousands of packs of beats, the same beats, thousands of emails. Searching, search back then, you had to search for the emails. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? And then if somebody they had a real email, so what? Send it. Then at the same time, you competing with millions of people. So, you know, it was it was a lot of years that I could have gave up. You know what I'm saying? And I could have been like, you know what? I'm done. You know, it was even a point to where um I was working with um Waka Flocka brother, BSM Quam. You know, it's the time Instagram. I'm using Instagram to hit people up. You know, I don't have any placements at the time, but I'm just, you know, what's up, man? I got some beats. You know, where can I send some beats? I'm just trying my luck, you know, because probability is, you know, a number somewhere.
If you just hit up enough people, that's right. You know, the probability of somebody responding is eventually gonna show up if you keep keep at it. You know what I'm saying? So I ended up locking in with Waka Flocka brother, BSM Quam. And then BSM Quam, he ended up um, you know, sending some of my beats to Waka. And then he showed me a snippet where Waka was recording on one of my beats. This is back in like 2014. Oh shit. Yeah, 20. No, this is like, nah, nah, I'm tripping. This 2015. Okay. Yeah, it's like 2015. And then from there, um Southside, Quam put me on the phone with Southside. Yeah, put me on the phone with Southside. And Southside was like, yeah, bro, you know, your beats hard. He was like, shit, send me some shit. You know, so I was sending shit to him, you know, and then nothing ever happened from that. But so why do you think Quam did that? Quam was quam cool. Like, I feel like he But he didn't have to do that. Yeah, he's just like three-way calling Southside. Yeah, he I think he gave me my number and then he called me. Still, what up?
I mean, like, he didn't know. There are people out here, guys, that do want other people to win. Yeah, they do. Like, there's actually people like that. Like, it's not most people, but they do exist. But exactly. It's shocking when you find them. But like I promise. Hold on to those people. Hug them. Love them. That's just a recurring theme, though. I think for our guests, is that like there is someone that, and I mean, you've had multiple now, probably, who have taken a chance on you or like done you a solid for you didn't even fucking you didn't ask, like, hey, can you connect me with Southside? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nah, nah, nah, yeah. It was just you got a call from Southside. You just gotta do it. You just gotta be solid. Yeah. I feel like that's what they look for. Like when you just solid and you and you don't ask, like, oh, hey, man, like, can you like, of course, like, you know, people DM me all the time and like, hey, like, can I get with Savage? Yeah, can I talk to Savage? I gotta, I got some advice for my music. Like, I'm like, huh? You know, what I'm saying? Wait, what's wait, what's the craziest one? Like, what's the craziest savage request you've gotten in the DM? What have you got? What have you gotten?
Bro. Come on. shout out DJ Mark B, Mark B. He Mark B, yeah. Me and Mark B be having crazy DMs. Come on, bro, give us a few. They be like, give us a few of the best. maybe one. You can think of like yo, like, yo, hey, how you doing? It's my son's birthday. Yeah, he really like 21 Savage. Shit. Can I can I is there any way you could call uh 21 Savage on FaceTime three way with me and let him tell my son, happy birthday? Oh my god. This is a random DM. Like, you know what I'm saying? But it's like I'm not about to respond, no rude shit. So I'll just be like looking at him like Savage. just get on a cameo. Yeah, let me call Savage and tell him like, hey, somebody want to get out there? It'll be wild. This random person's son's birthday. Savage. Like, I'm like, whoa. Savage, talk to Lil Timmy real quick. Yeah. He's turning nine. He's a huge fan. He loved I am my voice. Oh my God. Yeah. That's amazing. Hilarious. Yeah, bro.
No, and so yeah, I just think like it really can be that one beat, you know, it's safe to say that like obviously Savage has changed your life. I mean for sure. Yeah, like that's I don't think that's even up for debate, right? And so it's I'm not debating it. Yeah, I don't think Hazel is either. Shout out to Savage Realist. No, that's crazy, man. Um back to what you said though. Yeah. Even when somebody does give you a chance and it doesn't work out, don't give up. Ooh, that's big. You know what I'm saying? Because the thing with Quam didn't work out. But I didn't give up. You know what I'm saying? And I ended up coming back around. Yeah. You feel what I'm saying? So goes that goes to say, be open to help when it's given, show love when it's given. But at the same time, if something were to go bad, don't give up and keep going because that chance that he's saying is gonna come. And when it comes, it's gonna come. Yes. No, that's huge because I feel like you sometimes get these alley oops, and if you don't slam dunk it, yeah, you get you get down about it. It's it's uh it's yeah, it's it's it's just human nature, right?
It's like Yeah. you get down about it. How did I fumble this bag? Or like why did they end up switching up? Or I'll never get another chance. Yeah, that was it. Yeah, because because that that one chance does feel like so crazy that you're like, yeah, I just talked to Southside. Yeah. Like I, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the pinnacle. I'm like, oh shit, yeah, I'm out of here. And then it's like back to square one, you know what I mean? Yeah, man. Um, so I I guess like, you know, why why sign like you know, for those of our our community who might get the opportunity where an artist has a camp and they like approach them to, you know, potentially be an in-house producer type of deal, right? Like, why why sign a deal versus maybe just like make beats for Savage? Because like you could have just made beats for Savage, gotten placements, right? Like, what what appealed to you about like, you know, being an official slaughter gang pretty you know what I mean? Like what what went into the decision making there? Just so just in case like our audience gets that opportunity. 100%.
Um, I would say I look at all situations, how I can learn and grow from them. So some situations I look at like college. You know what I'm saying? If you're in the NBA, every few goals to be in the NBA, you're gonna have to play college ball. You feel what I'm saying? You're gonna have to put that same exertion, risk your same everything that you were gonna risk in the NBA. So I look at it, but for no pay, right? Now I looked at it. Well, under the table, but you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, under the table a little stuff, but you know what I'm saying? So I look at like sometimes as a producer, if you want to sign to an artist or sign to somebody, another producer or certain things like that, look at that situation like a college type situation. Because now you're gonna work with that artist, you're gonna be tapped in with everybody that artist is tapped in with. You feel what I'm saying? Um, you can create connections, you're gonna create uh relationships, you're gonna create all types of things from working with those artists. And then, you know, you show your loyalty as well by contributing back to the pot.
And then after everything is done and over, right? You still family, but now you got your situation set up to where you done built it, you done built certain things to where now you're a free entity, but you're still in joint on your own terms. Yeah. With the person that puts you in position. Yeah, you're locked in for life. Yeah, but you have the network and everything. Yeah. Yeah. So I look at it like that. Like, you know. Yeah. So other than obviously the success that you've had with 21 Savage, you know, directly. what, What would you say are some of the biggest like outcomes that have have resulted from the like slaughter gang situation? Um doing the whole uh soundtrack for the the Saw movie. Oh what? for Spiral. You did that? Yeah. Oh shit. Yeah. Shout out Jordan Berg, um Mark Berg, Orin Coyu's uh owners of the Saw franchise, you know, Lions Gate, all those people, they're all super cool. What was that like?
Like compared to making music so different exactly scoring. So different. Yeah, because like I actually had to like so the beats are inside the movie as well. It's you know, multiple of them to like through different parts of the movie. So we had to actually like I had to go back and score what part I had like a small clip, like a it was crazy. Like when you see in movies and stuff, they send you a link to log in to something that deletes after a certain amount of time. Oh destructing video footage. And then yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You can't record it, you can't do anything like that. Super locked box crazy portal that you could watch it. Yeah. And then I had to like map the seconds from this part to this part, seconds to seconds, as when this beat is gonna be playing. You better move, you better work quick, bro. Yeah, yeah. Self-destructing in the few hours. Yeah, yeah. You know, so that was really cool. That was through Slaughter Gain doing the Mortal Kombat thing for the the first Mortal Kombat commercial. Oh.
What the song ended up turning out to be was Immortal. What's crazy is both of these examples make so much sense with the sword. Yeah. Like shit. Like exactly, exactly. I'm like, duh, it would be Saw in Mortal Kombat. Like, why wouldn't it be? Even in the song Immortal. Yeah. For Mortal Kombat. Exactly. That's almost like tears. That's almost like on the nose. Like, come on. That's too good. And I'm about to come out with a uh an anime, like a small little anime. You are? Yeah, I got uh a powerful um drawer, designer. He does like Naruto level type. Really? Yeah, so I'm working with him. And you wrote the story? I'm writing it in the process. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm coming out with that. Then I'm gonna roll out a like a little album or something or a single or something with it. Fire, bro. You know who like, okay. You might not even understand what you're actually saying to our audience right now, but like just adopting your passions and like your interests into the music, bro. Like it's so obvious, but I don't think enough of our community does it.
Yeah. Where it's like you're into that shit. You already mentioned Dragon Ball Z at the fucking very beginning of the episode. So clearly you're like an anime guy. You mentioned Naruto level drawing, like whatever. Like you're you're into this shit. Charge up. Yeah, so like, so why wouldn't you integrate the two? Yeah, integrate it all. It just makes sense. You have to like something besides music. Literally. Something. If you don't find something else, like and I feel like you know who really does that really well, Pierre Bourne. Oh, yeah. He's like, he's like one of the very few people I I've ever met that like watched all the Chappelle show and like that knows all like you know what I'm saying. It's like certain things that he know that you gotta know from like the a certain upbringing. You know what I'm saying? And I feel like he he's definitely one of those people. That's why his sound is so unique. I feel like he integrates it with like all that. Oh, so he's not even like explicitly doing it. You're saying just like kind of like subtle influences you'll notice? He does. I feel like he just that's just him.
Like you know what I'm saying? He's like a creative in a way to where he just thinks differently. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? No, that's crazy. Yeah, for sure. That's true. Um, all right, so you know, you mentioned this in another interview that I think is super important, and we've talked about this actually a lot as well. It's like there's there's two different approaches that you need to be doing when it comes to like networking in the in the music business that we've heard of and that we've found, right? It's like there's the online game, there's the how many fucking DMs can I shoot, how much content can I make? How much like can I live on Twitter? Can I live on the internet, right? Yeah, but then there's like the in-person footwork that you gotta be putting in. Yeah, and like you told this story, bro, at Linux Mall. Yeah, this motherfucker loaded up, it's his first trip to Atlanta. You said you were coming from coming from Vegas, where you're from, for a birthday party of little baby, right? Yeah, okay, a little baby birthday party. Yeah, he loads up 25 flash drives full of beats and thinks that he's gonna run into rappers at Linux Mall. Yeah, which is like you're liable to, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And you even said you did find like a few people he did. So, like obviously that's one way you've done it, like on the in-person side of things. If you were starting out now, because obviously you're at a different you know level now, you have relationships, et cetera. But if you Linux Mall is not the same anymore, you know, you should come straight. Um, but like if I'm a new producer, what would be some like ways that you think I should be trying out like in person, you know, networking or in-person footwork type of of activities? You know what I mean? Like, what would you be doing today if you were starting? Hmm. I feel like today it's a it's a different it's a it's a whole different universe now it's a beast it's a beast right now right it's a beast right now I feel like in what way is it so different do you think um I feel like you need to know Discord oh so you're thinking it's skewing skewing online yeah you got to skew online that's one of them skewing online knowing Discord yeah getting involved in community getting involved in communities you know I'm saying getting involved in communities being super fire making samples yeah yeah being super because then at that point you can like warm your way in with like um you know a producer that you know will respond to a DM it's very true that's the number one thing that like every mega producer is looking for a guy that can make a loop that's that makes people say like where'd you get that sample from exactly if you can make a loop that sounds like that yeah you're hot like people you're in high demand yeah then now you can be like aha surprise I know how to make drums too and then you know saying once you in you in and you can like piggyback off that and then boop boop boop boop no that's big specializing in in make in the loop making or in the same sample making right sample making and then yeah learning how to make I say fire loop skewing online with uh with um door um discord and then um you know send it and even sometimes like very rarely do it do people do it now but I feel like even sometimes like when you if you super fire and you hit up a producer and be like yo how much is a collab? Yeah.
Nine times out of 10 that producer will respond and be like, oh yeah, 250, 350, whatever it is. Then you can you can possibly, if your shit is fire, you can get in like that too. You know what I'm saying? You've seen it. I've gotten producers' placements like that. No. I've gotten producers' placements like that. Paid collabs. A paid collab. And it worked. And then I got a placement with it. Bro, I'm not gonna lie. Sometimes it doesn't. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes it don't. It's not guaranteed. Yeah, it's not getting it. Like you said, shit has to be fire. Shit has to be fire. But it's fire, you're guaranteed. If you don't get a placement, bro, I look at it I look at all the collab, like the pre-I'm not gonna lie. I look at y'all funny. I look at y'all funny a little bit. I do, bro. And you you know my opinion on that. You know how hard it is to get paid as a producer, but I do, but make 250 for making it if I was already gonna make a beat. Why not get 250 off of it? Maybe discover some talent. But it's good to know that it does genuinely work. It does genuinely work, yeah. Because I look at it real funny, man, sometimes where I'm like, I'm like, you're not even gonna send it anywhere. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
See, now it you do got those certain producers that are that are strong. You gotta kind of see they vibe. Yeah, because you seem clearly like a super genuine dude. So it's like but even then sometimes, you know, a producer will remind me, like, hey, yo, I got a collab, blah, blah, blah. Okay, boom, let me do it. You know what I'm saying? But there's people out there that that are taking the money and not doing anything. Oh, yeah. They're ruining it for everyone, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're ruining it, bro. Because there are people out there literally that'll take the money and they'll just fuck off. And you know them. You know them. You know these people. I might. You know. We need a bad, we need a Vlad TV clip right now. You know these people, bro. Call them out. No, no, no, no. No, don't don't call, but like call them after and be like, don't do that. Call them out to them. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, man. So, like, see, I don't like I the only type of um nature medicine, plant medicine that I really like. And I recommend only for people that are of age that are willing to experience it on their own time. Weed.
Shrooms. Okay. Shrooms. It's like a syllabus. Shrooms is so popular right now. Shrooms are hot. You know what I'm saying? It's like their clout is on like 10 right now. It's hot right now. You know, and shrooms is like it taps you into yourself. It taps you into your your, you know, like there's certain types of shrooms that like say if you're one of those producers that do collabs and they take money and don't do collabs, you'll do those shrooms, and those shrooms will tell you, like, hey, like you're fucking up. You're fucking fucked up person. Like you stole this money from these people, you better go do the end of the shrooms or make you feel terrible until you go do it. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? So I feel like anything that makes you be a better person are is good. You feel what I'm saying? And there's time, there's shrooms that you can sit down and you want to meditate and you want to tap in on some some crown chakra energy, you could tap in and do a lot of stuff. See, you know what I'm saying? See, the the couple times I took shrooms, I had the not that experience at all. Really? Bro, I've had better, I've had better trips on LSD every single time than shrooms that are. So much more intense.
I know everyone says that. They're all like, how did you have such bad shroom trips and like such good acid grips? And like, I don't know, bro. Yeah, I don't know what the fuck was going on. Yeah, but like shrooms, like, oh man, I'll never maybe just go back to like a micro dose. I have two, bro. I'm not going back to I don't even smoke weed, bro. I'm not going back to micro doses. Albino, an albino penis envy. Oh, what? What? It's called albino penis envy. If I told my wife I need an albino penis envy, she's leaving us. She's like, you need a what? What is that? Is that strange? I'm like, kid Hazel. Kid Hazel told me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on, honey. It's real powerful. Yeah. So I was like it. Yeah, pause. So it's always pause. God, oh man. Okay. Um. How do you follow that up? Yeah, I don't. Henry, I think. What do you got next? I think we've entered the final segment of the podcast. I have nothing else after that. God damn it. Oh shit. Are we at the final segment already?
We are. Man, this has been so fun. I know. I don't want to be here. I don't either. All right. Hazel, this is the rapid fire rampage. Yes. It's a three-part rampage. Okay. I'm gonna start you off real easy with some short answer questions. Okay. I'll explain the other two parts as we get through. All right. Let's get into it. Let's do it. What is the meaning of life? Life is everlasting. Love. I thought Al Cass was everlasting. That too. Give us your top three tips for beginner producers trying to break out in the industry right now. Kind of piggyback off what Ben said, but um nice consent, concise form. Tapping in with other producers, you know, being of asset, you know, having having something that to bring to the table that nobody else is. Um, you know, staying consistent. Um, doing something that nobody's doing to get artists' attention.
You know, and that doesn't mean anything negative or it doesn't mean anything that you know undesirable, but you know, have a different essence to yourself that will stand out. That's huge, man. I love that. The third one. Yeah, that's big. Like, there's just so many of y'all, bro. Like, yeah, why do we give a fuck about you? Just like give it some thought of like what am I trying that's new? That's at least like someone's gonna respect like the effort of like, oh, no one's really doing that, you know? I'll be pulling up with sea moss. I'll pull it with sea moss and herbs. I'll pull up with sea moss and herbs. Have y'all heard the C MOS guys' beats? They're fucking crazy. And then plug in some hard beats. Yeah, you know, like hey, who's saying Travis Scott's wanting him? I mean, how are you gonna say no to that? Amazing. Yeah, Hazel, any three people alive or dead, can come to your birthday party. Who are you deciding to come to your birthday party? Hmm. Hmm. And pretend like your two friends aren't in the studio because you don't have to invite them. They just looked over, you know.
Better get that fucking invite. Prince, Prince. Cool. Gotta have Prince pull up. Yep. Um, have you heard of an artist named Soave at all? Yeah, hell yeah. He hates Prince. So I just I just want to get that on record. We have a content coming out. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. No, it's He was hating on. Oh no, it hasn't come out on the way. Okay, it's on the way. It might be out by the time this comes out. Um I say um Ramsey's the second. Okay. Yeah. Um and Bob Marley. It's a good party. I'll pull up. You just hired a personal assistant who was with you 24-7. What are their main jobs? Um make sure I stay accountable. Ooh. Um, help me organize and structure my day. And um, you need that, Jesus.
Yeah, for real. I feel like that's my fucking job and sucks. Um handles miscellaneous business. So, like breaking up CMOS, CMOS. Yeah, the CMOS is delivery. Pretty important. Important. Yeah, we could probably like a a little delivery service, you know. Yeah. Because I ain't got no CMOS delivery service. We need that. Yeah. The assistant would do that for sure. Okay. In Atlanta. Maybe packaging it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah he could package Whoa, why did I? Why did I just gender the assistant? They can do it. I love women assistants. Teammates. Okay. You know what I'm saying? Because I feel like women think things, they they think differently. Yeah. When it comes and they're very meticulous with their detail. Oh, and that's because one of them's your lawyer who got you a fat fucking publisher. Yeah. So like come on, Hazel, that's a great team. We all love women that get us paid. Shout out Bernie gets you paid. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You were just hired. You just hired to produce a K-pop album. What are the first steps that you take?
Oh shit. I would listen to all the hot K-pop songs. Listen to all the hot like, you know, go to Korea. Research. Research. Go on the Apple Music Korea. Look at number one. Go from one to 10. Listen to all those songs. And go to Korea was a go to Korea. That was a big one. That's a bar. Yeah. Go to Korea. Don't like just step past that. I hope there's a budget for this project. Yeah, go to Korea. They got money. Hang out, hang out with some, you know, Korean vibes and go catch the vibe. Live the life. Go out, you know, with some, you know, trusted people. Maybe date a Korean woman for yeah just for the week. You never know. You know, catch the vibe. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I like that. Um, shifting very slightly. You have an unlimited budget to executive produce the next Savage album. How do you spend it? Oh man. Spending it on I say a lockout, go somewhere to lock out. Where would you go?
Um some Kanye shit. I say Jamaica. Oh yeah. I feel like Savage would love to lock in in Jamaica. Um spend money on on some features on some good features. I'm getting Alicia Keys. Oh I'm going to get in. Andre 3000. That's gonna cost a lot. Wait, is he gonna play flute or what is he what is he gonna do? He's gonna rap about colonoscopy. He's probably probably play some flute, make a beat with him on some flute. Hell yeah, that sounds good. Like some uh Freddie Mercury vocals. Ooh. Pay for that. Yeah. On a sample. Have Carlos Santana play the guitar. Sheesh. You know, then what's the craziest sample clearance you've had? Uh Carlos Santana. Wait, did you do you did that? Out for the night. That was that was a Carlos Santana sample. Shout out my brother Einer Banks. He went and interpolated. Yeah, I interpolated. It's so good.
We learned it. That's it's cheaper to clear it if it when it's an interpolation. Carlos Santana was actually cool. He was like, Yeah, y'all can interpolate it. I ain't tripping on that, but just y'all just can't use my master. You know what I'm saying? So all right, bet. And then Einer, he did that, killed it. We love Einer. Yeah, it sounded like it was like Carlos playing on from the ukulele to covering it all. He can play it all, man. I know, but people still think of from that, yeah, yeah, exactly. Because of people like you, he didn't know. No, he doesn't get the I I actually know a lot of the records that he's produced as a real producer. A lot of people exactly. A lot of people still like don't put respect on his name as a producer. They still see him with the ukulele videos. Which that was to your point, just going back to like getting artists' attention thing. Yeah, that was a fucking cheat code. That was a thing that he had to do. He's the type of person I would bring. Like when me and him first met, he would be like, Hazel, you want to call me? I'm gonna pull up on Lil Skies right now.
I'm gonna I'm gonna pull up on songs. So I'm gonna pull up on He'll take you with him. Yeah, like he don't care. He'll take you with him. See, shout out Einer yeah just there are people out there, guys. Like, just one percent of the music industry is dope. Yeah, he'll take it, he'll take you with him. One percent maybe. he's not stingy about it at all No, damn. That's fire. Okay, last one of the short answer. What is your favorite curse word? Hmm. John Noose. What? Whoa. What is that? Hazel, you're you're you're an interesting cat, bro. Wait. Okay. first time we've heard this one, obviously. I needed a what is it? Yeah, what is it? John Noosen. That's just the word extended. So you could John Noose, you could be John Newson, or you could be John Newgering. That sounds racist. That sounds racist, bro. I can't say that. I can't say that one. No, so John Noose is like it's like a form of uh a sexual activity. You know?
In what language, like what what are we the language is like sodomy? No, no, no, no. Come on, bro. Why do you gotta do that? It's it's it's Sabaic. It's it's a sabaic language of the Sabian tribe. You know, they they it's almost like similar to Arabic, but it's a very ancient language that goes back to a very, very ancient ancient times. Bro, Hazel can read like hieroglyphics or some shit, I bet, bro. Take him to the fucking pyramids, this dude's reading the walls. Yeah, man. God damn, bro. He's in FL Studio, and he's on the Egyptian walls. Yeah, man. love it It's a form of passionate, though. It's not like, you know, somebody could be like, fuck. Like, you could be like, John Noose. Wow. You know what I'm saying? It's more passionate. It's more. You know what I'm saying? I'm gonna start using that one. Yeah, like tell somebody like, yeah, no, I want you. I'm trying to John Noose. Then it's like you're gonna, you know, she's like, oh, okay. Should I tell my wife that when I get home? Yeah, like let's John Noose. Let's John Noose
You want a third kid? Yeah, you're right. way to go, crazy John Noosen. Okay, moving on to the this or that portion. Very simple. I'm gonna give you two choices. You pick one. Here we go. Hooks or verses? Hooks. Lyrics or flow? Flow. Drums or melodies? Drums. Snares or claps. Claps. I'm in. Strings or keys. Keys. I'm in. Flow switch or beat switch. B switch. Clear the sample or fuck it, drop it anyway. Clear the sample. Bernie will listen to this. Yeah. All right. 10 platinum records or one diamond record. Hmm. I would say probably the probably the the the it's tough, right?
You just thought you had it, bro. You were this close to having it. Um, I say the diamond. But the 10 platinums though is crazy. It's crazy. That's crazy. That might be generating more income. It's hard to say. And it means you've got it figured out. Yeah. You've done it 10 times. But you don't have diamond figured out. Yeah, diamond is rare, though. You gotta, I feel like you go ahead and get the diamond. Take the diamond home. Let's go. Yeah. We're all eating off the diamond forever. Yeah. And finally, I have a magic coin. Heads, the next five songs you produce, go diamond. Oh, what? Tails. You get a giant face tat of R. Kelly. man Gambling? Come on, man. Give me heads. Let's go. Flipping the coin. Obviously, we all want heads, but like you're so you're flipping the coin. He's flipping it. 50% chance of R.
Kelly on your face forever. I ain't gonna get that. The universe ain't gonna do me like that. God, him in his fucking universe. Bro, what universe do you live in? Find a way to do that. I'm getting R. Kelly on my face the way I live. Jesus. Damn, bro. Okay, this is the final portion. This is the word association. I'm gonna say one word, and you just give me the first word that you think of. Whatever the universe tells you to say. Okay, gotcha. Right back at me. Here we go. Starting with hip hop, rap hop, car, bike, tax, free, hat, jack, hit. shit Shit. Shit. Hot. Warm. Auto tune. Tubular.
Video game. Pokemon. Loop. Beats. Spaghetti. Fettuccine. Judge. Free TikTok Pinball Las Vegas Murder City Clip Cat Goat Smoke Lil Baby Slaughter Gang. Let's go. This has been Kid Hazel. Yes, it has. Which is for the eyes, by the way, right? Yes. Yeah, when I was a kid, um, me and my cousin, we both got hazel eyes. My mom's uh sister's son, and we was both kids. He was like, I'm gonna call my because we have a grandpa, our great grandpa had hazel eyes, and his name was Cat Eyes. So then when he was a kid, I was a kid, we was like, Oh, he's like, I'm gonna call myself Lil Cat Eyes. And I was like, I'm gonna call myself I'm gonna call myself Kid Hazel.
I was like seven years old. Damn seven. I was like eight, still rare. Fire origin story that holds up that long. Yeah, when I became a producer, I was just like, what am I gonna call myself? I was just like Kid Hazel. Well, you heard it. This has been Kid Hazel, as always.
